Looking to get some Formula RO's to replace me Tech 4's and was wondering if I can use the Hope rotors? I'm running Pro3 AM4 wheeels which have special 4 bolt rotors..
Yes. Probably. But you may need to do a bit of careful filing. Whether you consider this safe or not is up to you. Personally, I have done finite element analysis using my eyes and brain, and it seems okay (Formula R1 + Superstar floating rotors).
A different setup, but when I installed by brakes a couple of years ago, I had problems running non-formula rotors on K24s.
It seemed the the formula rotors are/were a little thicker than the others I tried (avid, shimano & superstar) and I could never get the brakes to adjust correctly using anything else.
forumla t1's & hope floating rotors, no issue
will also depend on hub too, as some hubs can cause the issue, i remember years back i had to ditch the floating rotors on xt hubs as they didnt fit, yet triend the wheel on a mates hope hub, with same branded forks/brakes and it fit fine!
Steve Deas from icycles was running Hope rotors and Formula R0's at the Trans-Savoie and I chatted with him about it.
The Hope rotors are a little thicker than the Formula ones so with new pads they are a bit rubby but not a huge problem and it goes away quickly as the pad wears. Biggest problem is the floating rotor rivet things which just touch the calliper as the wheel spins... you can either put up with the "ting" noise or take a file to the calliper to remove a sliver of alloy to get beter clearance. He had done this with his last set of R0's but had forgotten to do it with the ones he was running.
Thanks guys. Won't have the problem with floating rotor clearance as the AM4 rotors are single piece rotors.
