I haven't been out on my bike for a good few months and when I took it out at the weekend and gave the forks a squeeze I found it was VERY stiff but only for the first compression when I had pushed it all the way through it's travel it became the usual silky suspension that I remember.
Is this normal? I haven't experienced it before because the bike doesn't get laid up for this length of time.
I'm guessing that the seals a foam washers went dry and after compression they were lubed up again?
Any advice?

Not an unusual phenomenon for any sliding mechanical device.
