Hi all
Been lurking around on the forum for a while without posting a lot. So hello all.
I have a whyte 29er hardtail I am considering a fork upgrade on.
I have just got myself a canyon spectral and I am blown away by the difference in fork performance between the bikes. I realise the amount of travel is going to be the main difference but the pike fork on the canyon feels so plush compared to the recon on the hardtail.
I am looking for 42mm offset 29er forks for the whyte with 120mm travel. Anyone know what would be a good upgrade. I'm struggling to find forks with the offset that whyte put on the 629.
Cheers
Welcome to the forum, I think everyone is reading the Sick bikes thread hence its a bit slow!
What riding is bike used for? If you like the Pike I would get another spaced down to 120mm. I ride a 29 hardtail with a Reba at 120mm and Pike would be my first choice likely second hand. But the new Revelation RC with charger damper looks interesting
Sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon.
i wouldn’t get too tied up by the off-set, couple of years ago 51mm was all the rage, then overnight it was wrong. I doubt a 44-46mm offset (more prevalent) would upset the handling that much if at all.
The recon’s tends to be a basic/budget fork, so anything with a decent damper should be better. Though they extra stiffness of a bolt thru fork with thicker stantions f better damping would be my preference. Alternatively rockshox forks intervals are pretty upgradable (simply swap the parts out), maybe investigate that option & you wouldn’t need to worry about your off-set
Thanks for the ideas. Swapping out internals sounds interesting. It would be good to learn the servicing of them myself anyway tbh.
I will go use some Google fu to see what I can do.
How about these in classifieds? New revs with charger for 225. Not sure on steerer length though. Need new air ahaft for 120mm but cheap to get.
