I'm not sure how much difference if much at all this would make but I've no experience hence the question.
I'm looking into a Yeti 575 which according to their data is based around 150mm forks. The Fox Talas RLC in 150/120mm format are 32mm sanctions but I want to run 36mm as I'm a big old lump and want to beef the bike up a bit.
If I move to the Talas in 36mm sanctions the travel is 160/120mm.
Now the question is does 10mm extra throw out handling or geometry enough to worry about or should I be fine going for that fork?
Cheers!
Gary
It should be fine, but maybe take a butchers at the Yeti site to see what the fork limitations are, most manufacturere suggest a max "Axle to Crown" length rather just than a max fork travel.
Not exactly sure that a Yeti 575 would be the perfrect frame for a "burly" bike though, well definitely wouldn't be my choice.
EDIT: Well they seem to have beefed up the 575 some, since last I looked at it, so may 160mm fork aren't so bad an idea...
Suggested Axle to crown is 52cm (20.5"),
Can't locate any 2011 figure but these are suggested for previous years:
Talas 150: 520.9mm
Float, Talas, Van 160: 545.3mm
If that still holds that 2cm more than recommended, and will slacken off the bike by a degree or so. I'd drop them a mail and see what the warrenty situation would be.
Ahhh still 545mm axle to crown for Fox 160mm..
Thanks for that! Very helpful, looks like I'll be using 32mm at 150/120 combo.
Much appreciated.
🙂
I used to run 160mm Lyriks on my 575 and it was superb! No problems whatsoever... It's maybe worth a browse at Yeti Fan to see what other people use. Go to the "your yeti" part on the left side...
Hi Gary! Is your 575 a 2011?
I was considering the 36 Talas for my 2011 575, for the same reasons as you. I'm just over 19.5st and consider myself a big lump. Though having said that, this time last year I was just over 26st.lol
Is the 36 Talas defo not a good idea?
Thanks for your time,
Darren
I've had confirmation from Evolution Imports (Yeti UK) that a 160mm fork will not void any warranty.
