Hi All,
I have a 2008 RS Lyrik 2-Step IS U-Turn 115mm - 160mm Air fork that came fitted to my bike. They are finally starting to get some issues, so I have been very lucky I guess! The 2-Step is no longer functioning fully, although the travel seems good on them. Instead of dropping down to 115mm, they only drop to about 130mm, whist not the end of the world, if possible I would like to get them sorted, as I can't really afford to replace them...or the bike!
I have contacted a few places and so far only TF Tuned have said they can service them, but they will have to open them up 1st to inspect them and they said to potentially expect a further phone call if anything has broken. I assume this means they may still not function 100% even after the service. Also, what confuses me is that I can't track down a service kit for these forks but TFT say they can still have a go at serving them, but how will they do that if the service kits aren't available? They said the service, plus courier charges is coming out at £149.
I am after a bit of advice as to what other STW users would do. I also tried to track down a medium coil for a 79KGs rider (red, I think) for a coil conversion which TF Tuned said they could do for me instead, but again, they are like hen's teeth!
I would entertain purchasing a new fork if the price was a stupid bargain, if anyone can recommend a good replacement? My current fork has a 1 1/8” steerer and a 20mm axle, 26". Or if anyone can suggest other options, that would great.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, I think you'll really struggle to find 26" and non-tapered, never mind the 20mm axle. Generally only lower end forks come non-tapered these days and a quick search saw most out of stock. If you're intent on keeping the bike then the £149 service might be your only option.

EH? I'd expect them to open them up and then give you a call if it's all busted. Why would they continue to service a broken fork?
That sounds like TFT are being really nice. They're gonna check out what needs doing on the fork, and before doing anything let you know the extent of the damage.
Have you ever serviced them? A fork that's never been serviced that's 11 years old is gonna feel awful to ride.
Your best bet would be the secondhand market, eBay or Pinkbike and see if you can find a barely used fork in similar spec from a while ago.
I’ve got a U-turn air Pike from around that era, 20mm axle, 26” straight steerer that you can have if you want them, they were lightly used after being TFTuned and Push’d before being put in a box.
Won’t be back home until Tuesday if you want steerer length, pics etc. I’ve also got a cool set the same if you prefer a coil setup.
No idea what a fair price is for them these days so make me a non-insulting offer if you are interested.
That's miraculous with the 2-step, mine blew up before I even got them fitted 🙂 If you can possibly find the spring parts I'd definitely go that route, these old mico lyriks are as good as anything you can buy new imo- heavy of course but otherwise ace. If yours are in decent nick other than the air spring, it could even be worth just buying an entire cheap coil lyrik to get the parts.
(the spring ratings were all bollocks though imo, for me rockshox said soft, verging on extra soft- soft was a disaster, medium worked great)
Is your frame definitely straight steerer only?

Sorry, maybe my choice of words was wrong. As the forks are technically not broken per se and my understanding, after talking to TFT, was they may be able to open them up and replace seals and oil etc, but the 2-step issue may still be present afterwards. Even though technically they have been serviced.
That sounds like TFT are being really nice.
No doubt, the were super friendly on the phone.
That would be great if you could send details and photos. Its much appreciated. As you say I have no idea what a fair price would be either, maybe other members could offer some guidance? In you opinion which would better, the PUSH'd pair or the coil? But it may depend on the steerer length in the end. I assume brake caliper mounts would be the same as mine?
Thanks for all of the message so far guys, its really helpful.

No problem, will get pics etc. to you on Tuesday. From memory, caliper mounts are the old ISO standard, steerer lengths should be useable as they were fitted to an XL bike. The push’d ones were good from memory but coil will almost always be better. I’m not 100% on whether the coil ones are u-turn though.
Would a coil for the Domain forks fit the Lyriks? I thought ideas somewhere that they would.
Thanks

Got a straight steerer 2010 fox 36 talas (160-130-110 iirc)in good nick. Came off a lapierre spicy 516 when I went to a coil fork. Also got float internals for it if you want to de-talas it, was going to do this but got a coil fork instead. Keep meaning to sell it, but never get round to it. Pm me if you’re interested.
Hi,
I've found a place in Germany selling the correct coil, according to TF Tuned. Can anyone confirm which spring I need?
I assume I weigh myself all geared up and go for the spring that suits my kitted out weight? Or are the weight bands for the springs already taking into account a little extra for gear?
Thanks again

Not sure if anyone is still interested in this, but I thought I share the conclusion with the forum anyway.
I got the red Lyrik spring from Germany and shipped it off with my forks. TFT have done the conversion and a full service, and the forks are now back on my bike.
They feel way better, a bit noisy tbh, but smooth. I've not given them a proper ride yet though.
Next job is a new headset...it seems I've set off a chain reaction (pun intended) of upgrades!
Cheers for all the help guys.
