[Closed] Fork swap: downgrade or not?

Thinking of buying a new bike with "Fox 32 Float 150 RL FIT Performance Series" forks. Given the short maintenance period for Fox forks and their reputation for lack of reliability, I was thinking about swapping the forks for a set of **2010** Magura Thor forks which I recently picked up fully serviced.

Would this be a downgrade, upgrade or sideways swap?

Also, can I fit forks with a standard 1-1/8" steerer to a tapered headtube? If so, how's it done?

To fit standard forks in a tapered head-tube, you'll need a new headset (or at a least a new lower cup) which is sized to fit the big headtube & small steerer.

I'd just keep the Fox fork. You'll get 2 years warranty on the new set and it's easy to do a seal service every so often.

I know people with Fox forks who've never touched them for years and they are still fine.

I wouldn't touch a set of Magura's.

Fox? Most definitely. Different leagues.

As long as you clean/wipe the seals and stanchions, cycle the fork then wipe off the residue, for me you wont have any issues.

Sell both sets and just get some Rockshox, job done.

As above the lower headset will need replacing, but other than that it's pretty much straight forward.

As long as every so often is 15 hours, you have a warranty. If not then you don't. Two year paper warranty is all well and good, but if its invalid as soon as you claim then its not really worth having.

I've had a few sets of Magura forks and they are very good, and extremely reliable (service interval is 12 months, so Magura believe this as well).

I've ridden both, and the Thors are very good forks but a bit of a PITA to setup as tiny amounts of pressure make a massive difference to the forks feeling.

Sell both & go rigid. It's the only way.
Chicks dig men with rigid forks.

Use the Fox's and services them yourself regularly and they will be fine ultmatily I would recomend rockshox's as I think they are much easeir for the end user to services other than the dust seals most of the seals are easily avavliable from Sram or a o-ring supplier. If you do a muddy harsh ride it should not take you more than 15 to 30 mins to do a lower services.

I'll swap you for a set of 1997 indy C. they never had, and never will need, any servicing. you'll need to make up the difference in cash though.
