Rockshox specify Loctite 2760 for the airshaft on lots of forks. I can't find this anywhere. Earliest delivery in UK is June for a 50 ml that I'll use 1 drop of before the stuff expires. It's also very expensive at £72 inc postage 😮 . Are there alternatives? So far I've found one alternative listed which is also not available.
I've got the blue stuff now which I'm very tempted to use. Will I die?
Is this for the lower leg bolt on the airshaft side? If so check out https://www.reddit.com/r/bikewrench/comments/xmyds9/rockshox_service_threadlock_on_bottom_lower_leg/ - summary: you probably don't need it.
Loctite 2760 is fast-curing, self-priming and oil resistant, which is probably why they recommend that particular one over standard red (271). Any cheap red threadlocker should work if you want to do it by the book.
TBH I've never used threadlock on lower leg bolts in all my years of doing home servicing and never had a problem. It's not even listed in the tech manual for my current fork (RS SID Ultimate).
Not the lower leg bolt, it's for the nut that screws onto the airshaft. The lower leg bolt then screws into that nut. I think the idea is that it prevents the airshaft nut being unscrewed when the lower leg bolt is removed
Which fork / year? Trying to visualise where that nut would be.
Pretty sure any red threadlock would work, but its worth dropping SRAM technical department a message here to check - https://support.sram.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=1260811300130
They're super helpful and will get back to you quickly.
It's a 2021 Revelation left leg. Same with any Pike or similar from 2018 onwards.
I found a Loctite comparison chart online and narrowed alternatives down to 271 or 268. 268 is most similar except it is much less strong. 271 is getting closer 2760 but probably needs heat to undo in future. I'll give SRAM a shout, thanks for link. It seems to be hard to get in the USA too. I'm wondering if a chemical has been banded somewhere.
At 31:39 in this video you can see the part I'm on about.
I use Loctite 271 on those C1 air shaft base studs here at the service centre. Absolutely no issues at all.
