This is the noise i get on the forks from my T-130.

With wheel on, wheel off etc it's the same.

The noise is why i sent the forks back and the service center have replaced the cartridge.

I then fit my X-Fusion forks and it's quiet as a mouse.. But i was planning on selling the X-Fusions but have had to let the guy down now.

Both... I swapped it between the forks for each testing. So both forks were all set up correctly.

I can hear the tyre hit the blue mat thing and maybe a bit of noise from the cables, sorry I can't hear anything else.

Must admit, I can't hear much over the sound of the tyre slapping the mat. Is it that clicking noise? What did the service centre say was wrong with the first set?

sort of click click? Is it not just the initial movement of the damper? Sounds ok to me.

Its the sound every bike makes when you fit coloured pedals to it.

I've taken it again with the forks removed, it's uploading now

I agree it's at the top travel of the damper mostly likely, but that doesn't mean i agree it's 'normal', this is the first set of forks i've had that do it.
The XFusions don't and my RS's on the Parkwood dont.

edit, Mic was too far away. I'll have to get mrs weeksy involved.

That looks (and sounds) sooo wrong. 🙂

Seems a lot quieter on that one. I can't quite see, is it on the downstroke or the return top-out?

Next question. That's within your normal sag, isn't it, would you actually hear it at all when sitting on the bike (except when completely unweighted, obvs)?

That's the problem mate, when you're riding, you hear it almost constantly. Over certain bits it's quiet, i guess when the damper doesn't reach full extension and top out, but then on some trails, rooty ones, it's every single root and seems to echo more when fitted. I know it sounds quite quiet off the bike and on the video, but it's honestly damn irritating when riding.

My fox 40's, the spring would bend in the middle and **** the inside of the fork leg making a noise. That's what the shrink wrap was for, but it would migrate up the spring and expose the contact section.
I will be honest, it sounds OK to me.

Is it clicking on the way down or on the way back up? It's hard to tell from the vid.

Try letting the air pressure out of them and pump them up and down a few times, you'll be able to move them more slowly with the air out and it might give you more idea as to what's going on.

edit- OH's coil Pike 454s were really noisy.

Exactly, isn't it just the shims opening and closing?

I'd be inclined to say at the top of the stroke.

Does that mean on the way back up?

Coil or air forks?

Air spring piston sticking on the way back down and negative pressure 'sucking' the piston back down onto the rod once there's enough of a difference to free it off? Are they brand new or are they second hand? The pistons aren't attached to the adjuster rod in these forks I think, at least they aren't in the Auron and Durolux.

It is an important point, different designs sound different.

They're air forks

They were brand new on bike and made noise early on but I thought it was the internal cable routing rattling away.

They've just come back from Greyville who are the Suntour importers who sent them back with "replaced cartridge"

Change video playback speed to 0.5 - appears to be just as you compress.

I'll take your word for that, I don't have the facility to change speed that I know of

So i'm at a bit of a crossroads now. The importers came back and said "well, yeah, they sometimes do that, it's down to the spring in the LHS fork leg", "It's not a problem, they still work perfectly well...."

Well yes... it's not a problem for THEM... they don't have to ride with the sodding noise. I however do... .well.. I don't actually as i bought the other forks, but if i wanted these standard forks back on, i'd need to put up with the noise.

So what do i do now.... Sheesh...

Anyone want a set of 27.5 forks, 130mm, great condition and recently rebuilt for £125 LOL

Throw ‘em over the hedge and get a set of Pikes.
This is coming from someone who boycotted RS due to previous disaster forks outta the box.
Well impressed with these new modern Pikes, night and day to their old forks.

Can be had cheap now too. 🙂

I've got new forks mate, but I'm now £250 out of pocket and not terribly happy about that in honesty.

Well I don't feel too terrible as I bought it in a sale and saved £800 on rrp. But would be nice to flog the forks and get something back

Say whaaaaat, you purchased a £1050 fork for £250!?

Makes my brand new Bos Devilles at £300 seem expensive 😆

No, i meant £800 on the RRP of the bike purchase at the time, not the fork. The new fork i bought s/h and did OK on.
