hoping for a bit of advice from the fork fettlers

i currently own a rct3 pike 650b 2015 at 160mm travel

ive purchased a new 29” rc yari 2018 at 160mm travel.

i want to adjust the travel on the yari to 130mm

i also am questioning the possibility of swapping the rc and the rct3 cartridges over?

i have the original air shaft from the 650b pike that says @29” wheel =130mm so assuming this fits the air side but whether it’s compatible I’m not sure as I keep seeing mention of debonair.

anyone able to advise as I don’t want to pull the fork apart to find I neeeded to order something different for the travel and also I’d love to use the rct3 cartridge if possible.

all this to keep me busy whilst I wait on the flaremax frame I thought I’d nabbed before they went out of stock

AFAIK the airshafts are swappable. The damper isn't.

Thought the new shafts were now the same travel irrespective of Wheels size from 2018 on.

Yari/Lyrik and Pike airshafts have different travel requirements by 10mm.

The lyrik/yari chassis is different. Also the stanchion internal diameter is different. I don’t think its possible to put a pike damper in the yari.

Cool that answers the damper question (and boo on that front)

the airshaft I’ve got is marked with the different lengths ie 26, 650 and 29 the 29 is at the length I require but the exploded parts diagram on the SRAM site suggests that it’s a different airshaft (maybe the debonair uses different part)

thats cool I’ll pull the fork apart and see what’s what and report back for someone else who may find this.

cheers

I think your 2018 Yari is classed as debonair, but I’m not sure it’s the same as the better (bigger negative spring) debonair 2019 airshaft. For £42 I’d pick one of those up for sure - my Yari now has that airshaft and an rct3 Lyrik charger 2 damper and he improvement is very obvious.

Unless you’ve got some kind of oem Yari that has a limited charger damper in it, I’d assume it’s motion control. The upgrade damper is an rct3 charger 2 damper from a Lyrik. The pike one definitely doesn’t fit.

Update time

popped the yari apart, swapped the debonair airshaft for the new 2019 version to both upgrade and drop the travel to 130.

swapped the seals to the spare skf ones I had.

added 2 tokens to make 4 in total, believe I can go to 6.

now find myself pondering about the damper side.

apart from the charger damper upgrade is there any other options for the rc on this fork.

Does the damper upgrade replace everything on the damper side including top Cap? If so, anyone done this upgrade and have a Lyrik 29” rct3 cartridge taking up room.

overall, liking the yari a lot especially the new top cap design that uses a cassette tool
