I have a crazy idea that I really want to share .
Its really simple, Over the next few weeks take a photo of you / your bike/ you and your bike/ you and your mates/ your Dog and your bike etc

With a simple note on a peice of card or paper with ' For Jenn ' written on it. Hopefully it might eventually grow to make a montage or album that Jenn could flick through when riding simply isnt an option and draw some strength from the fact that a load of online, virtual people that have probably never met her are thinking of her .

Please give it a few minutes thought, its entirely up to you lot.

Doesn't have to be a work of art , just a snap with a camera phone and 30secs with a Sharpie

Well, Thanks for reading
Rob

There's a "about Jenn" stickie at the top of the forum.

Brilliant idea, thank you. How do we get the pictures to her?

Grtdkad

Look at Forum help, but basically you need to link the image to another photo sharing web site? I use Photobucket dead easy mate.

As of yesterday my Dad's in a similar situation to Jenn. I had an adventure loosely planned, something ive wanted to do for a while and thought "unlikely it'll happen". Well now it will.

I wasn't so sure, but according to a friend, it's wrong to deny STW a photo bombing horse.

One from me from Wednesday morning. Get ready to go to my daughters graduation or go for a ride and ended up late back, wife knew why I went out and I enjoyed the sunshine. Drove like a man possessed to be at my daughters but worth it!

Ive never met Jenn... I'm not even sure if ive read any of her articles.
I dont know what inspired me to write all this but its possibly a mixture of sleep deprivation, fatigue and empathy.

For some reason (im not sure why) i felt a need to add to the photo album #forjenn.
The plan was simple... A quick 8 mile detour from my usual ride home from work this evening and grab some nice arty #forjenn photo and maybe even get someone to take a picture of me on the beach against my inspired photo set.

As i left work i realised it was going to be hardwork.. this was my 4th ride in 24hrs and yesterdays ride home was a flat out hour and a half punishment of a road ride taking in the scenic river route which i never really noticed in my oxygen deprived enthusiasm to pedal faster. My legs were tired. Nevermind.. life isnt easy. The pain will help me think about what its really like to be given such abrupt life changing news. The next 30 mins I struggled and argued with myself over whether id be angry or depressed if it were me. I imagined a whole roller coaster of emotions and decided you'd need a ridiculous inner strength to deal with it. Theres a nice fast mile long rolling respite down to the beach.

I pull off the road and and stop by the sea wall.
Hmmmm.. maybe i should have checked the tide times.
Crap, bollocks, shite, the tide is right in!! No wait.. theres still 8ft of sand left in front of the pub. I casually ride over and hop straight over the sea wall with my bike slung over my shoulder and start the rock dance down the pebbles. I say dance but you can pretty much imagine how easy it is walking down a large bank of pebbles in cleated road shoes. Stay cool i thought.. you have a possible audience of around 100 peaple in the pub beer garden wondering what the hell you are doing. You can make it to the sand without falling over.

The tide is coming in and i dont have much time. Time is of the essence so i prop the bike against a large pebble and get scrawling. Ignore all the people watching. You have a helmet and glasses on and nobody will recognise you. I manage #For Je before a wave surges in over my feet. Its at this point i start to feel even more eyes watching me and realise im actually pretty damn tired. Its only water and sand i think as i try and compose myself. I take several steps backwards to start writing again, stumble over a rock and am now sat on the sand. My arse is wet, my feet are wet and 200 people are now stood up watching me.

I cannot fail. I came here to get a photo for Jenn.
A nice lady walks past paddling through the waters edge giving me a sympathetic smile. I clean up the words ive written ( yes i know its only 2 words), pull out my phone and start taking photos hoping some kind of divine artistic intervention or just a lucky shot will happen. The sun beams out from behind a cloud and surely thats it. The sun sneaks back behind a cloud and surely my artistic genius like photography skills will be captured for [s]all of the world[/s] STW to see. Im done. I scramble back up the rocks and pebbles, and up over the wall without event. I sit down on the wall to brush off the sand and think i'll watch the tide come in and erase my handy-work as a sort of poignant farewell to Jenn. Washed away, back into the sea and disappear forever.

5 minutes later and For Jenn is still there. At least the beer drinkers are no longer watching me. The tide is not coming up any further. I struggle the last 6 miles home without event and am getting near to that bonking feeling as i roll into my street.

Jenn held back the tide today. Jenn has the battle of battles on her hands which will eventually overcome her. Hopefully she can hold back the overwhelmingly strong tide of her illness for longer than would be thought possible. The tide will come in for all of us one day. Stay strong Jenn.

*The photo is actually pretty average but im blaming the wet sandy arse feeling..

** if attempting your own forjenn photo, remember to turn off the 60 lumen red flashing light on the back of your helmet as it may attract attention.

Me and the boy having an adventure.

There were crashes, there were tears, there was frustration at messing up, there was a rest stop because we were "puffed out" and there was the question "Dad, when can we do it again?"

Damn - I broke my foot/ankle a few weeks ago and am going to attempt to get a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon this week so *should* be off the bike for sometime.

However - this has made me rethink. Going to try and strengthen things up as much as I can and get out for a ride as soon as possible, even just a short and tame one. Jenn is an absolute inspiration, I lost my Mum to the big C less than 2 years ago and am still trying to come to terms with that loss. She was another fighter. Jenn's determination is reminding me of hers and I think it would be a lovely way to honour both of them to get my arse out and do something, even if it is so minor in comparison.

Brilliant that people are jumping on this. Any instagrammers, the #jennride tag has 97 pics and counting https://instagram.com/explore/tags/jennride/

This hashtaggery is all looking a bit Betamax vs VHS. Pick one, pick both, go have an adventure 🙂

Long post so apologies. I only met Jenn once in probably 2005. Sweamrs was being a labrat for some University science and Jenn was racing a singlespeed at the Gorricks. She cheerfully decimated the whole field and was already a legend.

I was in Whistler last week (not for the first time). I'm very much a wheels on the ground rider or at best short drops; huge jumps are not my thing at all.. As you ride up the chairlift the start of A-line taunts you with a substantial (for me) drop and I'd mentally marked it as a "maybe next time" option. However reading Mark's piece motivated me to think that I should really do it this time. So after a couple of long hard looks I managed the initial drop and also the subsequent first couple of kickers before swiftly exiting onto the road at the first opportunity.

No photo of me on the initial entrance but Coast Mountain Photography captured a shot of me with both wheels clearly off the ground. So that (very rare) jump is #forJenn and thanks to Mark for a motivational piece of writing.

For Jenn and the other people I have lost very recently and not so long ago, 3 retired work mates in the past few weeks all not much older than myself!! I only hope I get longer than them after I retire next year.....
Just after Mum died Dad was misdiagnosed, we had all the chats with the teams etc. Turned out to be a herniated oesophagus which due to his other conditions cant be operated on. Ticking time bomb....

I've been out the past few nights here in Galloway for sunset runs, I'll admit i've spent quite a few hours on hillsides n' beaches just sitting…… staring away…..contemplating stuff……waiting for the sun to fade from view.

This is for you Jenn…….A toast to the #winningist ss'er

Today started well, there was a chill in the air and the mist hung low over the river. I knew it would warm up once the sun cleared the tree line over the valley and I had a few chores to pass the time.
This route had been going around in my head for a while now so I decided today was the day and headed out on the CAADx, my usual Saturday loop stands at around 50 miles depending on how much time I spend in the woods of Pembrey Country Park but I wanted more, that 'let's see how far' kind of day. Off out over the Loughor Bridge and onto the North Gower Road I went, a loop around to Oxwich and down through South Gower before heading back up through Clyne Woods making my way back through Llanelli home to Carmarthen, stopping briefly in Burry Port to snap the pic below.
Today I cracked the 100 mile mark, inspired to do so by someone I've never met.
#ForJenn.
