Morning All,
I have a chance to escape for a couple of days next week and looking to go to the Forest of Dean. As its only going to be for one night I'm looking for either a camping pod type thing or a nice little AirBnB. I have found two places online that are within a 15 minute drive and £50/60 for the night so around that price. Has anone stayed at either or care to recommend anywhere else please?
Stayed here about 5 years ago, not quite an airbnb, but not overly posh 🙂 https://thespeechhouse.co.uk/
Location was great
Looks nice for a different type of getaway but over budget and not really what I'm looking for.
I stayed at Green acres a few nights, van though not pod. Really nice site with lovely owner, cafe, clean facilities.
Not too bad evening walk to town for food etc
Sounds just the ticket.
Was there a lot of road noise that you noticedparticularlyand was there anywhere you would suggest for dinner?
Broadstone Park Staunton. I stayed in a pod there a couple of months back and it was excellent.
OP, no road noise, Indian was quiet but good. I think it was 5* hygiene. The Dog House micro pub opposite looked great too.
Saracens head pub at symonds Yat. The guy who runs it (or at least used to) is a nice chap and a keen biker. It’s an amazing spot and the food is great.
Stayed at Greenacres a few times, nice site & close to town.
Also stayed at Bracelands Campsite. Prefer the location. It has pods / Safari tents there too.
Easy to get down to the River Wye and a nice walk or cycle to the Saracens Head or the Ye Olde Ferrie Inn on the opposite side of the river. Both nice pubs and good food.
The Fountain pub at Parkend ride to the trails decent accommodation and grub 👍
Just come from a few days at Bracelands.
As above, pods etc. Poor o2 coverage is only real downside.
Excellent Indian takeaway in town
As said above Broadstone, Bracelands and Greenacres are all look decent - I live nextdoor to Greenacres and only a mile or 2 away from the other 2 sites so I've never actually stayed at any of them but they're all in nice locations. Greenacres is about a 15/20 minute walk to the town centre which has some good take aways some nice cafés and one or two good restaurants and the Doghouse micropub is excellent. In terms of proximity to trails and town Greenacres wins.
Drop me a message if you want a trail guide for a late afternoon/evening ride, there's some excellent off piste riding within 10 minutes ride of both Greenacres and Broadstone.
