Never been before, riding xc, where should I park and start from, looked on websites and trails start and end all over the place! So a bit of local or been before knowledge is needed. Point me in the right direction.

The three comercial, signed trails all start from the pedalabikeaway shop. Here's a link to their page. http://www.pedalabikeaway.co.uk/ you've got a choice of a green family trail, a blue with red options (verderes , most peoples trail of choice) or a short red trail. Enjoy!

Ow do, i went down to the FOD last thursday with a few mates. The Verderers and Freeminers trails both start at the pedalabikaway bike centre (as do the downhill sections as far as i could make out). Google Forest of dean mtb and check out the FOD website. The car parks huge but get there early as it gets busy pretty quick. We were there at 8am and were the first 2 vans parked up, but by the end of our first run at 9.30, the car park was getting busy. The verderers is wicked and has a sweet final descent (some pretty good ones along the way aswell with cool berms). The freeminers trail is alot more rooty and less flowy but great fun also with abit of woodwork (northshore?) dotted around. A really nice descent on that too. You'll have great time, I cant wait till i get another free day to get down there again

As you turn in off the main road, follow road up hill around to left, you will see Pedalaway bike shop , cafe and work shop on the left. Keep forward and car park in front of you. Can't go wrong as you come to dead end.
If you manage to park in main car park, as you come out on bike turn left through another small car park and the trails for the Verderers and the Freeminers start.. About two thirds around the Verdereres you will come out onto a fire road. To the left about 200yards is the start of the down hill tracks.

It was rammened up there Monday. People were moaning they were waiting half an hour to get a parking space. Busiest I've ever seen it.
