Pretty much decided on heading to FOD for two days riding the middle of August and just wondered if there is enough stuff to ride to warrant the stay over (local B&B or pub lodgings). I am keen to book on the uplift on the Friday then just ride the 'funner' XC stuff like the blue route that I hear so many good reports about.

Dilema is do I take my 'mini' downhill bike (Scott Voltage) or my razzing hardtail Charge Blender?

I could spend two days on the uplift without blinking, just been there on sunday for about the 6th time in 18 months and its still excellent.

You'll be fine on either. FOD is great fun on hardtails and Big bikes. The XC stuff is alright, but I'd suggest just blasting the DH for 2 days. The XC parts can get quite busy over the holidays

Take the hard tail. The down hills are not rocky and you'll have as much fun on that. Plus you can do the ups and across bits.

I'd probably take the hardtail as the dh is fun on either but the xc can be a bit of a slog on a full sus. Or take both if you can!

I'm no DH'er but would suggest spending a couple of days on the DH runs, the XC loops are crap IMHO with the exception of the final decent on the blue (which can be accessed via the uplift anyway).

I took my Covert and and started off mincing around stuff on the chicken runs (let the proper DH'ers go 1st) but gradually did more and more - really enjoyable. It was really greay when I went, must be great in the dry! 🙂

You reckon I'd be safe enough leaving one bike in the car while out riding? (covered up of course)

Unfortunately, nowhere is safe these days. If you're parking at Pedalabikeaway you'll probably be OK but bikes have been stolen there (although I'm not aware of any having been taken from inside locked vehicles); a while ago there was a spat of people 'spotting' nice bikes on the trails and then following the owners home then stealing from houses/garages/etc. 🙁

If you can chain it to a seat base or whatever as well when it's in the car you're making it as difficult as possible. But then just how much trouble can you go to make a bike secure - someone may jump you while you're riding it... 😯

I've never seen a theft at FOD, but seen lots of dodgy geeezers (my prejudice) so I wouldn't leave anything of value in a car there.

Can you lock your bike in the car? I've got a cable lock that I can loop round a bit of somethingorother in the bottom of the boot. It's not very secure at all, but isn't obvious so if anyone tries to just smash and grab it ought to slow them down.

Saw some smashed car window glass at a forest access point unofficial car park in Parkend last weekend.
