I took the drill to a not-exactly-new but newly powdercoated Scandal frame to realise what I thought was a nice Rohloff cable routing. All cables/hose along the top tube and the external gear box out of harm's way. Let's see how long before the frame cracks...

Picture of the bike with Maverick forks, Suntour XC Pro cranks, Surely chainring, Spa Cycles saddle, powdercoated Nukeproof stem, Charge grips, old SLX and new XT brakes with mixed lever/calipers,...

And a picture during the first quick ride Friday morning.

Tidy. Inboard brake calliper really neatens things up.

I've just converted to V-Brake noodles

Got them on the shifter end too.

Nice bike, nice build and a clever idea, the Rohloff external gearbox usually hangs below the dropout and that's always put me off speccing one but i could be persuaded with your set-up.

Nicely done 😉

With the Monkeybone it's possible to get the click box quite neatly behind the caliper - my bike has the Speedbone so it's not quite so neat (can't be bothered changing it) but the click box can usually be routed to the back on any frame if that's your thing.

I bought the hub almost 9 years ago (had a different frame then), and went on and on about how great it is during the first ride with friends, until I smashed the box on a rock.

I didn't know this, maybe the next frame (that would be #3 while still with gears #1) does not need to have disc mounts at the chainstays after all.

Nice idea and well executed . Big Rohloff fan here and I've gone through loads of frames over the last 10 years of ownership with various tweaks to try and find the 'perfect' set up. I'd be very interested to see how your frame bears up to the internal routing.

My current version is a very tweaked Cotic Solaris with new thinner seat stays and new Paragon swinger dropouts inc the inboard brake. I also altered all the cable routes to the down tube but seriously thought about getting the drill out. If I can save enough pennies, I'll be getting something specifically made next time but with a EEB and shorter chainstays. Depending on the frame builder advice I might also dabble with some internal routing, especially for the near brake and click box. Obviously, the trick is getting them past the BB or seatpost but I think new longer seat stays than run past the seat post and join onto the top tube would work.

How do you find the vbrake noodles make much difference in terms of tension or is it more a 'cable tidy' thing?

Is that an ESP paint job? Looks really good with unpainted dropouts.

New Rohloff hubs now come with right-angle noodles, to allow routing like this. I suggested they make one noodle a larger radius than the other so they curved neatly together, but that was too anal even for Rohloff.

Good to see another bike with the Rohloff/Maverick combination, snaps.

rosscopeco, I would love a custom-made frame with the Paragon swinger dropouts, or even a modified Soul/Solaris; bare dropouts look nice, but I have to admit that your bike looked even nice in raw, but maybe that's just me.

Noodles are just for tidier cable routing, Rohloff always recommended that one uses their outers, but I use SP41 now, I think tension makes a much bigger difference than routing/noodles/outers...

Noodles for cable tidyness, but the last few cables I've used have been standard gear cables wit hJagwire brake cableouters, much more reliable (and cheaper) tha Rohloff's specific cables.

Not notice any problems since fitting the noodles.

Like the Cove there. And the Cotic with swinging dropouts.
Keep meaning to fit my Rohly to my Kona A to see how it performs witht the extra weight, but haven't got around to it yet.

Yes, although having seen a few of shands bikes with these dropouts I like the way they paint everything other than the 'swinging' surfaces. I'll just have to get another made...!
