You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Away for a week in Devon and on this morning's explore found I'd ridden a few segments. Looking at other people's attempts on the segment I can see their routes.
I'd like to follow their route, can I do it without being their friend?
I think you need to subscribe. You can do a free trial, download what you need.
If you've got a paid subscription you can download a GPX of other people's rides if they've shared it, but only on the web version, not the app (there's a download icon on the ride map). There are also apps that'll do this for you, such as the imaginatively named Strava to GPX, but I'm pretty sure they may have the same limitations for DL.
If you are using Chrome browser on PC then there are add-ons that will do the job.
e.g. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/strava-gpx-downloader/pnglhfabfkchkadgnkfacoakincdpeeg
Subscriber and regularly download routes from people that I follow. The routes of the Devon people don't have the download gpx on their maps.
Can you create a route from their route (from the three dot menu on their route page)? Then you can use that or export the GPX..
The routes of the Devon people don’t have the download gpx on their maps.
It depends on their privacy settings. If they have it as followers only then you wont be able to download it so you will have to try one of those add-ons and see if they work.
These are instructions I wrote for myself, but I haven't used in a while...
Using someone else's route (if it's public).
Find route on Strava app on phone.
(May need to go to that person's profile page, then their (public) routes).
Star/ favourite the route.
Open Strava on desktop or select desktop mode on phone.
Go to my routes.
Starred (favourited route) will be there.
Click on route (still in desktop mode/ desktop).
Under the route title will be options to print, export gpx, export tcx.
Export tcx for a course, then upload to ride with GPS.
Drop a message on their ride and ask for the GPX?
Have gone further down the leaderboard and someone has a gpx on their route.
Nicked that one.
Be careful. I did that once to copy a route that a local pro rider does for training.
Had a day off, agreed to drop the kids at school AND pick them up. Do the ride in between.
Figured we have some pretty similar PRs on most dirt segments, so I should be able to get around in a similar time ... what could possibly go wrong?
... ended up an hour slower over the full loop and had to call home and ask my wife to pick the kids up. That didn't go down too well.
Where in Devon? I live here and could send you some of my GPX's and direction notes pending where you wanna ride.
