After years of guzzling high-5 and other energy powder brands, I am starting to think that the awful gut symptoms I get 2 days after the weekends riding could be down to a fructose malabsorption issue. If I have a weekend where I don't consume said energy powder / protein shakes then I don't get the "has something died" issue.
I cannot be alone in this regard and thought I'd ask to see whether anyone else has found a suitable replacement for the fructose / glucose based drinks?
Thanks
Water and food.
Probably doesn't help you but I no longer use gels due to cost and disliking the taste, for sub hour races/sub 2 hour ride I dont eat, but generally put a bag of these in my back pocket to munch on for longer rides. They taste much nicer than gels and don't seem to have any adverse affects (unlike some energy gels)
Jelly Babies & water.
