Hi All
I am heading over to to FoD next week and fancied something a bit different to the usual trails
I am sure that I saw some where that FoD has some slabby granity type tracks some where, but can't remember where I saw it, or where they were.
So, do they exist, and if so, does any one know where they are?
Cheers
Not sure there's any granite in FoD, or slabs, there's a few tracks that have rocky parts, usually all over the forest, especially around old quarry's, what areas have you done before and what types of runs are you after specifically?
FoD is all Carboniferous rock (Upper Coal Measures) hence the mining history and the Freeminer trail. No granite there.
No granite, but the FoD does have its own 'the slab' over Staunton way.
Ah, maybe that was it Steelfreak.
Is it easy to find? Is there much over that way?
i usually go to the Pedalabikeaway car park and ride the downhill stuff there, but would be good to explore around.
There is plenty around Staunton and Redbrook. I ride it all the time
It's not easy to find over by Staunton, you have to know where you're going, as the stuff near the parking laybys aren't the ones with the rocky descents, it's a bit of a hunt if you do head over there, and this time of year isn't the best to be hitting that stuff!
If you're looking at moving away from the centre and finding more stuff, then just head over to the Wastelands area, it's basically across the road after you pass the bottom of Y2K/Elephant Man, keep going along the fire road and then head up the second fireroad that's heading upwards, you'll find loads of trails starting around there, catering for all abilities, there's harder ones on the side closer to the Y2K road, which have some nice gaps and descents.
Again, it's about what you enjoy, FoD has loads of areas with lots of different types of trails, there's some rocky stuff over by Mallards as well, not sheer slabs, but bits and bobs you can join up.
