Hi all,
Going to be down near Bristol / S Wales demo'ing a bike weekend of 24/25th June and wondering where's best to ride. Ideally I'd like to ride as wide a range of stuff as possible - rocky/rooty, techy off-piste, plus trail centre stuff. Forest of Dean is on the list, but mostly for the off-piste which I think I'll struggle to find riding solo. I know there's Cwm and some other trail centres too. Any suggestions?
If anyone was fancying riding that weekend and wouldnt mind someone tagging along, I'm sure I can provide beers/coffee to grease the wheels a little too!...
Cheers, Darren
Barry Sidings is worth a visit if you want decent 'off piste' trails.
Most are easy to spot. Or ask in the bike shop (Bike Doctor).
oh and what are you demoing? Starling?
If it was me I'd head to Cwmcarn and do a mash up of that and Risca bike park. The off-piste stuff is signposted and pretty easy to find (especially if you use TrailForks). Do the Twrch trail up to Castell Valley to see how it feels climbing and on trail centre stuff then point it down some of the Risca tracks and see how you like it on the rougher stuff.
+ Barry Sidings would be perfect for a bike demo
Great variety of trails close together, errs on the techier side
Yep - demo'ing a Murmur. Should be a good weekend!
Cheers all - didn't know about any of Barry and Risca but looks ideal. Sounds like I'll be able to find some of the more interesting off piste stuff too! FoD worthwhile? I'm deciding where to stay at the mo, so no need to stay near FoD if everywhere else is better.
Still open to joining anyone else riding that weekend too 🙂
I think I can ride on the 25th - will need to get clearance from swmbo first of course, but I know my way around Risca pretty well, and I'm local to FOD and more than happy to show you round either. Could easily do a staunton loop as it's on my doorstep (and it's where the best trails are round here, but don't tell anyone!)
Drop me a message on here if you want to arrange something.
Dave.

What kind of accommodation are you looking at? I have taken my little AirB&B hut off the listing for that weekend as I have an offer to go away somewhere though it is only 50/50 I might go. I woudl be happy to open up with a STW discount if it fits the bill? It is only 40 mins from any of the suggestions on here (all regular riding locations for me), as well as having some great natual and built riding from the door (very little of which is on any map).

Why not BPW? It's not as good an overall riding day as a lot of places but it does have a huge range of trails, they're really accessible, the uplift means you can ride tons of it, and basically think about the bike rather than the ride. It's not my favourite place to ride but it's such a good place to test or setup or learn a bike. The only thing it really lacks is sustained steeps
FOD waymarked (including the dh trails) is absolutely superb but it's definitely not as mixed or complete a selection of trails. And it's tempting to add offpiste but then it's going to soak a bunch of brain that should be thinking about the bike.
Free that weekend and more than likely pedalling somewhere, I know my way around risca and the surrounding valleys, drop me a message if you want.
I demo'd a Murmur at Cwncarn - Twrch Trail and Glyncorwygg - Whites Level, last year.
Got a decent feel for the bike that ultimately led me to ordering a frame from Joe.
If you fancy a longer ride the Skyline trail at Glyncorwygg is 46k.
Anyone fancy FoD on Sat 24th then? Lined up a ride for Sunday, but thinking Saturday at FoD makes sense - get used to the bike etc.
Can't do FoD this Sat unfortunately, but if you still fancy S Wales on Sun let me know.
