Hi folks, I know that flying with an e-bike can be troublesome. However, I hear that it is possible to fly with a 160kwhr range extender in hand luggage. My question is - have many people done this? Were you always simply waved though, or did anyone have any problems?
(I notice that easyJet have a blanket approval for carrying 160kwhr batteries in hand luggage, whereas Aer Lingus ask for preauthorisation before flying).
I've done it a few times with the 160wh range extender on a trek fuel exe
There were no issues. Have flown with easyjet and Ryanair, no pre authorisation was required.
Have taken it through Manchester, malaga, and Geneva airports
The range extender needs to go in your hand baggage, if there are any exposed terminals they needs to be taped over with insulation tape.
Once (at Manchester Airport) I was asked what it was, I told them it was a battery for an ebike and they just sent me on my way. Every other time it's just gone through the scanners with no questions asked.
Also check if a shop at the destination would hire you a main battery.
I heard of a few places advertising this as a service, but maybe others might do it if asked.
You're TQ in the Neat so same as a Trek so might have a chance.
