You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all,
Heading to Whistler for a couple weeks this summer (can't wait!).
Taking bike, dates are set (end of July, start of August). Will likely need a check in bag too.
Best I can find so far is about £840 return from London with Air Transat inc bike and check-in bag, no stops.
A friend flew with them last year, didn't book his bike in in advance, and when he got to the check-in they didn't bother charging him. I'm tempted to do the same (75CAD each way for bike), but worried about there not being space for bike if not pre-booked etc.
Any tips/suggestions for getting best flights at best prices?
Thanks,
Duane.
I'm pretty sure bikes are ~£20 each way with transat. I've never booked and just rocked up and paid for them at the airport.
Their site suggests 75CAD/£49 each way ( https://www.airtransat.com/en-GB/Travel-information-from-England/Baggage/Weight-and-size-what-you-can-bring)
I have dropped them a message to check.
They allow you to bring a bag of camping equipment for free. "1 tent, 2 sleeping bags, camping gear". I wonder if camping gear could include clothing, toiletries etc, which could be used for camping...
Im fairly sure you can’t book the bike in with air Transat or we weren’t allowed last time anyways, we even rang to check about it and they said no just turn up and pay at the airport. I’ve trusted it’s the same this time and haven’t booked them for our three week trip there. We can wave at the airport as we return end of July! Have you booked shuttle from the airport to whistler?
Flown lots of times with Air Transaat. No pre-booking of bike available. You just rock up and pay at check in. More than 10 of you with bikes in a group you are supposed to let them know in advance but when I've done this they've just said "yeah, be fine...".
Was £30 or $30 depending on country you are in each way last time I did it (2 years ago). Never had any bother with it over the years..... always best to get to airport early to get it done though.
Yep, definitely can't pre book with Transat. Just got to get there and pay at the check in.
My only advice is in busy periods, get there early for the flight - if you have picked a popular one to fly out on, there were people on one of our flights who's bikes didn't come with them, as there wasn't space in the hold.
I flew with Air Transat a couple of years back into Vancouver (and then transferred to Seattle). The LGW check in desk were offering upgrades for £199. I have never done that before and it felt extravagant, but if they offer it is worth it. Like 80s business class I should imagine, decent food and comfortable seats.
Have a great time in Whistler.
norwegian fly to seattle (so the route is cheap with all the airlines) - fly there then drive over the border - when the cheaper hire cast costs are taken into account, its often much cheaper than flying to vancouver directly

You can book the bikes in advance, I've just done this for my trip in June. I did have to do it on the phone though
They've changed it then. I've flown with them about 5 times and never pre-booked a bike before. must be this mountain biking thing getting popular!

No, it's been a couple of years since I used Transat - going Air Canada this year as it was cheaper in their sale & it's a more civilised experience.
Ahhh no I booked back in June 2018! Will have to get on the blower and cough up then, don't fancy the chance of it being full.
