thinking of building up a cx bike but with flat bars.
My road bike and regular cx bikes are 54tt with 100mm stems
A 54 flatbar would feel short though?
Any downside to just getting a bigger frame to compensate for the extra reach I would have with road levers?
I'm guessing road levers put your hands an extra 40mm infant of the stem?
56 with 120stem
58 with 100stem
Drop bars typically start at ~75mm reach in front of the stem.
My road bike is a "58cm" Cube Attain, which is quite upright even when the stem is fitted under all the standard steerer spacers.
I've yet to tweak the setup of my 18" Voodoo Marasa at all, which is currently even more upright, I think.
Thanks, I usually run compact road bars.
classic stw response, I know but I reckon you'd be much better off with a mtb frame (27.5 frame will take cx wheels easily - even a 26er will take "proper" cx tyres). That way you get the length without the gateyness of a too-big cx frame and also more flexibility to how you can use it
Thanks. I have mtbs. I've always wondered how a flatbar cx bike would be racing and just for fun. (I'm gonna strip my wife's bike as she never uses it). And just get a frameset
