After some new flat shoes for the summer. Was using some Specialized ones but they are a pain to get on and off (built in sock liner) and the tabs to help get them off have ripped.
Need something fairly wide. How are freeriders days? Canvas or suede type for summer? Anyone have them and do they fit to size?
Other recommendations that are not narrow?
Crank Bros Stamp flats are very comfy and summer friendly, I find
After trying hunners of shoes (well, at least 10), the only ones I find wide enough are specialised 2FOs. Roost are nice and light for summer, new sole is a lot stickier than the old one, lets see how long it lasts.
Go a full size up if you buy.
Impact pro also still OK, but need to size up 1/2 on those. Freerider or Trailcross fellas are far too narrow for me.
Have not tried Crank Bros, and interested to see what others suggest with a wide toe box.
Roost looks good. I see they come in synthetic or suede too. Would guess the suede ones better for summer.
How are freeriders days?
If its been a while, make sure you understand the difference between the Freerider and the freerider pro.
The pro is lighter, faster drying and not as warm (I also think stiffer and last longer, but thats a bit subjective)
Ususally £20 or so more, regardlesss of what discount site you find them on. Well worth it purely for the longevity, let alone the other improvemeents.
I find the "skate shoe fit" comfy with my feet which are wide at the toes - my foot is widest at the bottom "knuckle" of the little toe. But I dont know if that matches your feet or not.
I'm using the Leatt "Shoe 3.0 flat pro" now, find it a much better fit than I did my Freerider Pro. They have a standard laces version of it as well but I'm enjoying the micro-adjust ratchet thingy on these too. I have a bit of a bone spur/hallux rigidus going on with my big toe so when a review said the toe box was on the roomy side I thought I'd try 'em out, it's been good.
Off the back of the recent arthritis shoes thread, I took a punt on some Leatt 3.0s. I have spade-like feet (my sized-up Adidas and 5:10s are still a bit snug) and these fit super well and and have a very wide toe box.
Probably the best fitting wide flat shoes I've tried (out of these, 5:10s, Adidas, Vans, O'Neal and Shimano). Not quite as grippy as Adidas/5:10 but not far off.
Would recommend.
Only caveat is that they're not really summer specific shoes, but for me a comfy fit trumps my feet getting a bit warm every time...
(FWIW, Adidas Trailcross are the best ventilated summer shoes I've got, but they're a bit narrow).
