[Closed] Flat Pedal Shoe Sole Repairs?

Hey everyone,

My trusted North Wave Clan riding shoes are well used, but in great condition. Having said this, the soles are looking slightly worse for wear. There are distinct holes/groves where the pins from my flat pedals have worn them away.

It would be madness to replace the shoes, so is there a fix i can do to the soles? Maybe some sort of gum or rubber can fill the holes and will stay in place to continue the life of the shoes?

They have a Michelin Gravity Outsole on them, if it makes any odds.

So if anyone can point me in the right direction of a product to help fix them, it would be appreciated!

Feet First/Resoles?

Not tried them myself but they apparently go boots, approach shoes trainers and bike shoes...

Do you think you want to plug the holes or replace a patch of the sole?

I've used Freesole (now called something else, give me a mo) to hold together my aged Freerider Element VXi shoes but that was more that the sole would come peeling off.

Feesole - Now called Aquasure. Not cheap but does a decent job. You'll get a few months out fo the tube before it's gone solid.

Lancashire Sports Repairs can't come highly recommended enough from me.

I've had a pair of Five Tens done through them along with a couple of Goretex jacket repairs. They're brilliant.

A bit old school but they do an excellent job.

^^ 3 year old thread though

I always have a tube of Freesole about (now called Gear Aid Aquasure+SR Shoe Repair Adhesive) it's holding the soles of my old Terrex shoes on, and plugged holes on 5:10s not a long lasting solution but get a few more months out of them. I've rarely paid more than £50 for any 5:10 so to pay that to have them re-soled professionally is probably not for me, I've found over time the soles become flexible so worth just replacing sometimes.

I was under the impression since adidas took over theyd ceased selling the dotty soles, anyone confirm if theyve had a dotty resole lately?

thanks for the reply's.

its more to plug the grooves/holes that the pedal pins have created, rather than a re-sole.

I wasnt sure if there was some sort of rubber based glue/adhesive that i could squirt in there to fill out the grooves.

Replying to the tangent (sorry OP), I recently rang round the usual places and found that dotty rubber re-soles are off the menu due to Adidas. Real shame as I have about three pairs of five tens with nicely broken in uppers and wrecked soles but I'm buggered if I'm going to wreck them with vibram teflon grip.

I used to use Shoe Goo on skate shoes which did the job but recently repaired some soles with Sikaflex 221 (doing up my van and took the notion to have a go). Seems to have worked really well and feels very grippy.

I had the last bit of dotty from local shop, they will no longer supply it.

I looked into this recently, and I ended up buying Shoe Goo and using it as described by Norton05 here:

It worked pretty well. The only annoying thing is that Shoe Goo is quite hard to find in the UK. But as mentioned above other things like Sikaflex are probably just as good.
