Just recently convertd to flats (5-10 freeriders and welgo pedals) and seeing the benefits over spds except in one area, which is jumps.
was blasting round GT yesterday and my feet lifted off the pedals when gong over the jumps. What am I doing wrong? (yeah yeah going to glentress :roll:) Can someone explain the technique for jumping with flat pedals? Do you have to push your feet forward more?

I'm no expert but... I always imagine i'm letting the bike float up towards me when going off rollers etc.. soaking up with my knees.
is the SPD technique to pull upwards with the shoes?
Yeah sounds like you're not sucking up the bike with your legs.

If you're used to SPDs you may need to tweak your foot position too - on flats you should have the axle a bit further back relative to your foot (ie closer to the heel). Once I fixed that I stopped losing pedals in mid air.

Oh yeah, if you're built like Jabba the Hut you'll need a bit more speed/pop to get airborne than someone more like an Ewok.

I have my toes pointing down and sort of push backwards into the pedals bracing against my hands which are pushing forwards on the handlebars. You can grip the pedals sufficiently that you can lift the bike and hold it, but I am only doing tiny bunny hops. I found something on Youtube about it, but no doubt there are other better techniques. I will follow this to see what else gets suggested...
I am guessing the technique for jumping over rollers/bumps whatever you call them is different to jumping off drop offs?
For drops you ned to jet the bike forwards like:

but for roling bumps at speed you are propelled upwards?
If you drop both heels, you end up with feet parallel again and no increase in mechanical grip.
You need to drop your leading heel but raise your trailing one and point your toe. Then you can spread your legs front to back, adding outward pressure and grip to the pedals through the soles.
