Can anyone help me source decent flat sockets or well proved suitable spanners for servicing rockshox forks?

RS make the mission control spanner for a lot of money and there's a firm in the states making bespoke tools that once Duty has been added get kinda pricey too. Just wondering if there's anyone out there turning regular sockets down with a lathe or knows of a source for cheaper alternatives?

I've always just used a very large adjustable spanner and a bit of care.

the jaws sit on the nuts flat and don't dig in at all. If you get a reasonable one they don't separate or twist under the sort of torque a fork needs.

Park do a 24mm cone spanner which is ideal and IIRC about £7. (I got it so that I could take boxxer dampers out without having to remove the fiddly dials, but it's the same job essentially).

I have a spanner for taking shower fittings off its basically just a thin spanner aka cone spanner.

Its a bit on the short side and not the most ergonomic but if you're in a hurry it'll get the job done. Otherwise if you can wait a few days I'd go for the park cone spanner.

I've got a 24mm socket that fits a 1/4 inch drive ratchet that does just great. You can buy them in singles for less than a fiver. Old skool combination ring spanner and the ability to hold it on and work carefully will also remove them.

I just bought a 1/2" drive 24mm single hex socket and ground it flat with a hand file. Took a little bit of work but works perfectly.

I made an arbor from a coach bolt, spun the socket up on a cordless drill and flattened a 24mm socket on the bench grinder, worked a treat.
