Flare bars with straight drops

I want some new bars for the roadie, a wrist problem means I want some flare on the hoods but I just got some 44cm Prime Gravel bars, the flare feels good but makes them 53 wide on the drops which looks and feels massive! Even if I changed for the same in a 42 it will make them around 51 on the drops. So I'd like something that flares on the hoods and then changes near straight on the drops, keeping to 48 max I guess. Does such a bar exist or is this wishful thinking?

I think "flare bars with straight drops" is some sort of oxymoron. I don't think you can have both. Just play with hood position on some regular bars?

You could, I'm just not sure anyone makes them! I want to hold onto the sides of the hoods some of the time to ease the pressure on my ulnar nerve which is already impinged, flare gives more support for this. I just don't want to be spreadeagled on the drops

as above, Flared bars with straight drops is an oxymoron; does make any sense.

I think you want flared bars with less of a flare.   For example if you look at the list here https://bikepacking.com/index/gravel-bars/ you can see they give the flare in number of degrees so you can look for a smaller (straighter?) number

EDIT: just read your respose. Maybe you need to angle the hoods inwards a bit for some wristy comfort, but do it on a standard road drop bar (i.e. zero flare)

There's two types of flare -- the whole drops being angled outwards but remaining roughly parallel (like Ritchey Beacon) and the ends of the drops being rotated outwards (Salsa Woodchipper)

If you want something flared with narrow drops, I'm not sure how that works? Or what type of flare you want at the hoods?

Top one is flare and bottom one is outsweep. So what I'd like is the mounting position for the hoods to be flared but part way down the bend they would transition back to vertical to avoid the drops being too wide. Thinking about it a bit more though, I don't think this would work as the the tips of the brakes levers might end up outside the drops. So bah. Think road bars with a bit of flare and playing with the hoods angled as suggested might be the best bet

I have Ritchey ergomax, they have a slight flare so might give the middle ground you're looking for.

Ah, there's prob some different terminology going on then, as Ritchey call them both flare

Anyway, yes, I think what you want may not exist. You could check out whatbars.com though, just incase

I have a problem with hand pain on my right so I've done this.  Looks f'in stupid but does help me.
I do get a choice whether to look A) Like I've just fallen off & bent my RH shifter or B) I'm a super-aero world-tour pro wannabee with both sides turned in.  I guess you need option B, so better order that team kit ! 🤣

I did this a while back, turning the hoods in a bit. It doesn't need to be a lot to get a more comfortable position but does mean having to unwrap you bar tape, so keep that in mind.

Nitto Randonneur has a slight flare but is a road type bar, not a gravel special. They do another one with a small flare but different drop shape too but I can't remember which one it is.

Plenty of riders in the tour are using their levers tilted inward a bit for aero gainz (The UCI have introduced a minimum bar width this year).

On my gravel bike I have some Giant own brand drop bars that have, IIRC 10 degrees of flare - ie not much at all. Might be enough to get your desired position. They were only about £20.

does mean having to unwrap you bar tape, so keep that in mind.

Really? You can usually just pull the hood up a bit to reach the mounting bolts IME. Or just yank them to the desired position which is what I usually do…

Just got some zipp xplr sl70 and they have a modest flare at hoods and drops. Went from the prime gravel bar to these and much prefer them (found the prime bars too big/sharp on the tops)
