I've recently been slightly concerned I don't look enough like a stereotypical mountain biker so was thinking of getting one of those flannel riding shirts that seem to be all the rage.

Only issue is I'm 6'3 and built like a lamppost so buying clothing, particularly online, is often hit and miss. Anyone got any recommendations for long and slim fitting options?

Wool based would be preferable.

Cheers

1) you’re still not going to look like the typical STW MTBer, and

2) most of us are now jealous

PS I got a nice fleece lined flannel shirt from TSA / Ellis B, but I’m not sure it meets your brief for a) riding, b) wool or c) looking good on the tall and slim.

Surely this is one of the easiest things to buy at the minute? The shops are absolutely full of the things. It's not just MTB'ers that want to look like hardy crab fishermen, it's all the bearded, tattooed, craft ale types. There's a lot of flannel shirts out there.

As much as I like to avoid the high street that would be my first stop for this item. All the big shops will have loads to choose from.

EDIT: I just did you a favour and went to check where my current favourite work flannels are from. They're from Next, they're 100% cotton, they're light and stretchy and I've definitely ridden my bike in them a few times. They can't have been expensive or I wouldn't have bought them. I'm 6'2" and about 1.5 lamp posts.

Tall and skinny? Superdry is for you! I'm 6'2 and also built like a lamp post, I have a lot of superdry checked shirts! You can usually get them on sale too

I'm tall but not skinny

I occasionally ride in my dakine shirts. Not wool, but I find them fine to ride in.

Fat Face is the spiritual home of the flannel shirt. They do a tall range.

I use a couple of Lidl or Aldi specials for riding in. I’m not bothered if I fall off and rip them when they are less than £10.

Fellow tall and skinny here. H&M for your cheap flannel shirts, size down and accept the arms won't be long enough.
