Trying to get my sister's bike back on the road atm, a coventry eagle of uncertain vintage. Anyhow, it's good to go except the rear shifter on the downtube isn't working properly. It's moving the derailleur ok but isn't sticking in place, just falls back to put the chain on the smallest sprocket every time
How do I tighten this up? There's an obvious nut on the shifter that seems to hold the lever mechanism in place, but this is nice and tight. Where else should I be looking?

If its as tight as it goes - stick a washer between bolt and shifter. Its friction and hopes+ dreams keeping it in gear. Nothing more

Thanks - I'll heave on the bolt and see if that gets it done.
