I do intend to ride. When my mate has done all the stuff I'm rubbish at building this

I'll try and post pics as it gets done. Not new and needs some bearing love and a fork air-shaft upgrade from the donor. Talking of bearings

T

The Giga is getting a THIRD set of mains in 1500km/18 months use. To be fair it's had a pretty hard life. But even so.

https://stw-forum-images.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/12874500/01cyp5tlgq051cwgd5yw3ddjz73fi138.jpg

Fairly sure I can remember where all the bits go 😉

So all goes to plan, I'll have all my bikes ready to ride by tomorrow. If it doesn't, back on the  hardtail 🙂

Anyone else getting the spanners/beers out later?

New 6001 pivot bearings in the Slayer. Just off to Rotec Cycles to collect em.

you've just reminded me I need to fix the sticking XTR rear brake on my Anthem. So will take that off this w/end and give it a good clean up. Along with fixing some shelves up in my flat, replacing the felt on my shed roof and cutting the grass!

Fitting the rear insert I removed due to a big stanimal, putting more sealant in, bleeding my brakes, generally giving bike a once over before it gets collected on Monday morning to be taken down to the Alps before I arrive on Wednesday, for 10 days of riding! 🤟

Also, looking at a new (used) car for my sister, getting my car ready to be traded in, doing a test pack of all my kit for the Alps trip to make sure it'll fit in my cases...

100km Gravel tomorrow, 6hr round trip to Heathrow and back to collect family returning from holiday on Sunday.

Hopefully get a local Ride on Sunday afternoon, as I have an operation on Monday which means I will be out of action for a while 🙁

Adding a BB spacer for my gravel bike instead of a bodged spacer on the crank axle

Generally shaking my fist at the rain

Added

-change the contaminated pads/clean rotor on the gravel bike. Keep forgetting, never less than annoying 10 mins in

-mow the lawn. I say lawn. More various green things, mostly weeds. At least that means I probably won't have time to tackle 'the land that time forgot' cosplaying the other part of our garden. The tree surgeons need to get in in a couple of weeks and currently it's only accessible be helicopter 😉

Where are you off to in the alps @ta11pau1 ?

I might just sit in the garage for a while and stare at things.

Then go upstairs and watch people ride bikes on Youtube.

FS is in bits, hopefully build it back up to a whole bike Saturday evening.

Bloody better as I'll be at whiteroom having a week of alpine fun hopefully with Rab as guide. "Pub fight rules".

moving a front wheel from one bike to another, it;s the only one I've got that will take a 10mmQR adapterfor a QR fork. Building a new wheel to replace that, have some BSA30 bearings to change. fit some 28c tyres to the rigid bike and convert to 2x, which may involve a deep dig into the spares box to find a left gripshift.

then wait until I'm completely clear of covid to go ride....so maybe next week.

cut the hedge (involving digging out the trimmers, findng the battery, finding the charger, charging the battery, de-rusting and deburring the blades, refitting and lubing the blades, running the trimmers for 5 minutes) pick up trimmings the day after.

planning building things, like van stuff, shelves for the mini kitchen in it, water and waste etc, maybe design a small greenhouse...

more likely it'll be sitting on the sofa with the dog, watching faster people ride bikes on the tv.

Fitting a tyre from the spares pile to the rear of the trail bike, throw the old one away, check the spoke tension and fit a fresh gear cable. Oh and new grips.

Replacing the 12 bearings on my eBike that LBS fekked up by presumably using a socket set to press in.

Then new gear cable n outer for the hardtail

that’ll teach me to be lazy and put faith in LBS….when i’ve had a feeling for ages i’m better at mechanicing than most bike shop mechanics.

Well that's me done. Pivot bearings swapped on Slayer, bottom bracket done on that too.

New tyres installed on the spare Privateer wheels. Headset/tool tightened

Bonus job, well meaning autistic child decided to fill up my lawnmower for me, but used water as he had no petrol to hand. An hour's dismantling flushing and cleaning later, its running better than before.

I’ve got a front tyre to swap and try and fit some anything cages to the side of a pannier rack.

That’s probably it for bike related stuff, looks like a kitesurfing day tomorrow.

@nickc - lovely looking bike that

@honourablegeorge - I know I shouldn't but I am laughing a bit 😉

Couldn't get photos to load off phone last night for some reason. Anyway not quite there yet.

I know it doesn't look like we've done anything yet, but the frame was completely stripped to be cleaned and new invisiframe fitted. Also the four bearings in the 'rocker' are not serviceable according to Ibis. So they sell you a new rocker for £45. Except with 2Pure going bust, you have to source from the US.

We got them out at the exact time it became apparent that my 'bearing bag of plenty' did not in fact have 4x6800 RS FBs in there. So cleaned 'em out, greased 'em up and put them back for now. Main bushings show absolutely zero wear. Fully expect that X2 to STB on the first ride like every one I've had. Plan is to put service cost towards a coil.

Fork needed a 160mm air shaft installed, forgot some bolts I needed for the bash guard and the new XT shifter as well. So we decided to call it a night 3/4 done. Finish it today, ride tomorrow.

This is not my garage BTW! My mechanically minded mate has a proper 'work in progress' garage whereas my shed is more 'looks tidy, please don't let the owner use any of those tools- he's an idiot' 😉

That sounds pretty rubbish! It's not like bearing kits are that expensive. You'd have thought the shop would have them.

I’ve got a freshly reconditioned Charge Blender to build up from a combo of old parts and a few new bits. But have just realised all the old parts are caked in (several year old) dirt so will probably sack the whole thing off and take the kids strawberry picking instead

Working today.

We're mid way through a kitchen renovation and there's space in the second skip, so tomorrow I will be clearing out the shed and loft. Expecting it to be pretty cathartic and I'm actually looking forward to it.
I'll probably reward myself with an hour on the gravel bike before tea.

I've done pretty much exactly what I said I would do. Watched semi finals on YouTube. Tweaked both bikes, swapped some bars, stems and grips around. They're ready to ride (yeah right, when will that be?)

Then I regret starting to tidy the garage and I'm eating a sarnie staring at the mess I've made. It's a good job I'm home alone this weekend.

@slackboy - nice 🙂

Done. Needs a pre-ride fettle as my mate finished it while I was 'electrican's apprentice' and 'LED driver programming lead' 🙂 I'll move saddle back a tad (all bits came off another bike) but otherwise ready to go.

I'll give it a proper wash after a big ride out around the Yat tomorrow.

I think it needs more blue. Or a contrast colour. Now where did I leave those red rotors 😉

here's my mk1 for comparison. New one is defo a bit slacker

https://flic.kr/p/2jqmtgP

I did put a slackset and a 170mm fork in the v1 and it ruined it, for me anyway.

@honourablegeorge – I know I shouldn’t but I am laughing a bit 😉

Feel free, I'm laughing myself, now that I'm not forking out for a new mower 😁

Was slightly less amused before.....

@Alex Nice. You must have some overlap in bikes now?

What are you doing with the Mk1 frame? 😉

@twonks - sold the MK1 when I bought the Giga. Regretted it every since.

There is some overlap, but I'd rather ride a well sorted 160/150 trail bike than a 140/130. Weight difference isn't worth worrying about. The V2 RipMo addresses all the issues I had with the first one (a bit slacker, bit steeper SA, can run a coil etc).

I am going to be riding this bike A LOT 🙂

It'll never be this clean again 🙂

https://flic.kr/p/2oMm4MJ

https://flic.kr/p/2oMm4ox

Ended up around 32lbs. That with mostly XT transmission and brakes (with a cheeky set of XTR cranks thrown in), Newmen 35mm wheels, 2.6/2.3 Spesh tyres (probably change to a pair of 2.4 DHR IIs), 210mm one up dropper, Nukeproof bar and stem and a Lyrik Ultimate.

Think my old v1 was similar weight, it certainly pedals lighter than my Giga which is a few pounds more. Really enjoyed riding it in/around Staunton. Did a few of the harder trails and it was as confidence inspiring as my old one, only maybe just a bit better. New bike glasses and all that. Shall ride it three times this week to give it a proper shake down.

I was so impressed with my cleaning job, I even tidied up/reconfigured the tool wall. Strangely satisfying 🙂

Set up four fatbike wheels tubeless with 4.8 FBF / FBR Minions. Bit of check and tweekage before a Polish beachpacking holiday along the northern coast to Hel and ferry to Gdansk. Carbon rims make tubeless very easy but still need a bit of care.

Everything looking fine and setting off on Saturday.
