Any recommendations for a decent alternative to fiveten impact vxi spd?
Onto my second pair and as much as I think they’re great shoes the reliability is poor.
Both pairs I’ve had have broken in the same way.
Had a pair of Northwave Clans for a couple of months and they're holding up well. Good fit (for my foot anyway) and very grippy soles. Definitely dry quicker than my old 5.10 Impacts!
Unparallel? As far as I am aware, the company is primarily ex-5.10 employees - which may be a good or bad thing. I've not tried them but a friend has some of their climbing shoes and has been impressed.

Hadn’t heard of unparallel before. They certainly look good but the spd version doesn’t seem to be available in the uk yet anyway.
Anything from a company who specialise in SPD shoes . Five Ten are brilliant for flats , not so much so for SPD shoes .
On the rare occasions when I think it's a good idea to run clips, I have found the Spec 2fo shoes great.
As a clips shoe, they are great 🙂
Whoops, missed the bit about spds, ignore my suggestion! 😅
Shimano AM9 or any Shimano shoe to be honest.
Also interested as I love my Impact VXI's but they are wearing out! Shimano disnae work for wide feet! Anyone know if fiveten have a direct replacement for vxi's as they don't seem to make them any more, or anywhere who has old stock? Kestrels are too narrow for my fat feet.
Reliability? I’ve always got bored with my shoes, Northwave or Shimano before they’ve worn out or died... I have some of the early 2FOs and can’t see them ever dying either!
Quite like the look of the Giro Terraduros and the mavic deemax elites if anyone has experience of them?
Both pairs I’ve had have snapped at the plastic bit the cleat gets bolted on to.
Other than that the shoes has been fine and not actually that bad for drying out.
I’m going to try and try some 2FO’s on tomorrow.
I have some Giro Terraduro mid shoes, used for 6 months. I like them. Not big, soft, squishy and stable when walking around (like 5:10 flat pedal shoes), but good for SPD shoes. Laces aren't great, but are easily replaced if you want.
I think the Giro Camber II Shoes get good reviews… but they looked like they had too many holes for my liking.
I'm still on the old "Stormtrooper" Shimano DX shoes, hardly ever wear them now but would stay with Shimano because of the durability of those and my road shoes.
Our daughter is running the latest Adidas Five Ten Kestrel Boa after years of using Kestrel lace spds. Had a long chat with the rep at Steel City DH. Had to go up half a size compared to the old ones as they size up small. Early days yet but so far so good.
