I've seen a few people mention they're using these recently. How are the Five Ten Tennies on flat pedals ? How stiff is the shoe for XC type rides ?
It'll be fine.
They do come up small though, I'm a I'm 9 and fitted a 10
I've had a couple of pairs and they're like lightweight, flexy trainers. I use them for work and commuting and do about 5 miles a day.
I haven't even considered riding in them but I'm sure you wouldn't die. Not because of the shoes anyway.
They are on the tight side so not great for hobbit feet.

Likewise, I’m usually an 11.5, had to get a 12.5 to fit properly.
Posts on bike packing forums seem to rate them as a capable shoe for biking, and I can’t see why not.
Fwiw mine soak up water rather effectively. If I want a walkable trainer to bike in with 5.10 rubber then I'll use my tail cross XTs!
Comparing some tennies I bought last year to some freerider pro's I've recently got, I don't notice a difference in the grip. Tennies are definitely stiffer than a normal trainer as they're an approach shoe. For me they are both true to size (9 1/2), with the tennies having a narrower fit. Both used for touring, xc and trails riding. I like them.
I’ve been riding the five tennies beige green pink for over 2 years they are my go to mtb shoe for dry/summer, I much prefer them to my trailcross (hi and low)
The sole is hard wearing, upper is sturdy and great for peddling, downhill the grip is perfect the only time my feet ever slip is when I peddle down hard thinking I’m in a higher gear than I am
Worn often in the Pennines and peaks and Lakes
