Recently purchased the 2018 Impact Pro (black/gold) and have nothing but good things to say about them, so this is just a heads up for anyone thinking of them for the year ahead. I was previously very keen on the Specialized 2fo 2.0 but they were more expensive (by about £20). Having previously avoided the 5:10 hype train, these are great feeling shoes, light and genuinely seem quick drying. Very happy and pleasantly surprised. With Burgtec flats, they are savage on the grip.
so there you go.
Five Ten used to make one of the poorest, most over rated product in mountain biking.
Recently they've learned how to build an actual shoe and they're pretty good.
Had the soles fall off 2 pairs now - not impressed
Addidas Terrex - Trail Cross deffo worth a mention
Got a pair of hiking boots and aproach shoes by FiveTen.
Also 3 pairs of Freeriders in different colours.
My feet are huge and it seems unfair I’m not paying per meter but I always find last season’s sale items and buy 2 or 3 pairs if they have my size.
The hiking boots and Guide Tennies are amazing, the soles are super grippy for tree climbing.
Love my freeriders, they're not great in bad weather but otherwise they just work. Tried the newer Impacts VXIs and hated them, they gripped fine but they were like foot anaesthetic, I could barely tell when my feet were on the pedals. (they made Sam Hill a signature model, he refused to wear them).
Just recently got a set of Tennies for winter and they're bloody good too. Not quite as weatherey as my ace Sombrios but grippier.

I don't know about that, the early ones were poor in every respect, bar one - being bloody brilliant as connecting your feet to the bike.
Agreed though, over the last however many years they've steadily got better at making a practical mountain bike shoe around the sole.
I'm still a bit gutted that Teva gave up on MTB shoes though, they only had 80% of the grip, but everything else was far better. Lovely shoes.
Interesting replies echoing the questionable quality control that had until now put me off. I have to admit that I felt the current reviews and marketing addressed the previous failings and I handed over my money. They feel every bit as substantial as the 2fo that it replaces for me. The current impact is a world away from the old one it seems. Happy camper here.
