On my current set the rubber is well worn and I can feel the pins in the sole of my foot. Wanted to replace like with like, but each Website I find them on says product discontinued.

What alternatives are there?

The Impact...? Looks chunky. Any good?

They just released the trailcross high tops. Bit of an aesthetic step change but look sorted.

Someone posted a (positive IIRC) review on here recently, be worth searching for it.

I have some. There are for dry rides only, but have good ankle support and protection… better than my Freerider EPS high I’d say.

I’ve also got some of the new Cross Trail Mids.

I like them more than my free riders. They haven’t fully softened up yet but are getting there. They feel like gloves for your feet. Very different to the free riders.

There isn’t much choice out there in boots for flats.

I have some Impact lows, not tried the highs.  They are good but they are not a Freerider alternative. Heavier, bulkier and way less feel through the soles.

I have Addidas trail cross shoes, cant remember which model but they like trainers not mid or high tops.

I'm very impressed, first time using a sole from 5.10 and it is very very sticky. Shoes fit well, are light weight and ventilated, toe is reenforced so you can kick rocks without hurting etc...

Nice good light weight summer shoe.

Ride Concepts have a few high top options, but word on the grapevine is the sole isn't quite as grippy as 5.10 Stealth soles. Depends on what your after I guess.

Same boat as you.

I have the high top freeriders, the Adidas Trailcross high tops which were on sale last year and recently got Impact High tops.

The Trailcross are very light, slimmer fitting and feel, dry really fast. Grip maybe a touch less than the Freeriders but riding them last night maybe that's just in my head.

The Impact Highs are the opposite. Very chunky and solid. Grip seems same as Freeriders. The sole is very thick, which means you can't feel the pedal so much. Feel very stiff still after a few rides and walks. Probably exaggerated by the fact my Freeriders are heavily worn.

In short, neither of these options are a direct replacement for the Freeriders, they are both quite different. I suspect the Impacts will soften with age and wear, but the thicker sole is very noticeable. If you get on with the slimmer fit of the Trailcross then I'd go with those, if you want more of a gravity shoe, the impact.

Yes - they feel very light as others have noted, but very grippy.

They looked like they might be a bit fragile, but so far they are holding up well. Used for winter / wet rides as well as dry ones. The wrap over ankle keeps the worst of the wet / mud out.

I’ve got a broad foot and they fit me fine.

Another trailcross protect fan here, they also keep the little stones out of your shoes, which is nice.
