I spotted these five ten free runners on chain reaction and seeing as they're on sale, thought I might give them a go as, as much as I'd like to buy some mtb specific ones, they're way above my budget and the karvers also look a bit too chunky. Has anyone used these for mtb'ing? I'm using Vans at the moment which are great but falling apart so need some new ones (my pedals are nano's) 🙂

Yeah, I have them and they're pretty immense.
Use them with Nano's too.

You won't regret buying them.

£45? Would'nt you of been better chucking an extra tenner down on the AM40s? The sole on the Freerunner surely wont last long from the pins on the flats? A nice looking shoe though.

to be honest Kate I would just stump the minimal extra cash and get the bike specific ones. the extra stiffness and solidity of the sole is really good.

The long pins from the nano flats haven't given me any problems as far as sole wear is concerned (only in the shin department) and in general the soles are ageing pretty well. I've washed and photographed my most worn sole to show how much wear it's got from about 30 full-day rides - almost nothing. .

Stiffness, you'd be surprised at how stiff they actually are, I thought free running would require really flexy footwear but apparently I'm wrong. In any case, surely using flats sole stiffness isn't a major issue due to using the centre of your foot as opposed the ball?

I'm bored by the way. 🙄

Thanks for the info and the photo! I did look at the Karvers and the AM40's and these looked a bit less clumpy.I just needed a bit of a push to get the cash out. Hopefully they'll last as well as gcasters seem to be! Thanks again 🙂
