I ordered some shimano mt201 brakes from Merlin back in December and whilei put them on a bike earlier this treat, I have only just got round to finishing fitting them. The levers cave separate from the hose and calliper, so I thought it would be a simple job of push the hose in and tighten. I don’t see any olives though. Can anyone offer guidance?

Name check out.

Behind the yellow bung, there may be an olive. However, there's also a chance that there may not be. There's only one way to find out I'm afraid.

I thought that might be the case. Thankfully I've recalled that i have some olives and barbs on the spares box.

If i have it right, i need to remove the bung, undo the nut, put the hose through, add an olive (and barbed insert if i cut the hose down) and tighten. That should be it, right?

Just had a pair of these (literally fitted them yesterday) olive was behind the shroud nut in both cases.

Was a sterling job from both shimano building and filling them and me fitting, even after trimming both hoses and reusing the barbs, i *still* didn't need to bleed.

Don't do like I did and respond to a call for help when just about to cut the hose to length. Rushed away to emergency, came back and cut the wrong side of the block! Brake hose then too short and it's always the rear one that goes through the frame! No pics as I don't want to be reminded, like Northwind, everytime maintenance mistakes threads start up.

At least if you cut the rear too short you can reuse it later on the front.

HOw do you extract the barb? Did you cut the hose first then extract afterwards?

Cut the over length bit of hose off, then slice lengthways to remove the barb. Don't let the newly cut hose end flail around or you'll lose the oil!
