So my riding buddy has gone off on holiday and asked me to fit a set of tyres to his Enve M70 rims In Preparation for ard rock next week! Jesus Christ I am finding it impossible! He has huck Norris rim strips fitting and no matter what I do I can't get the last bit of tyre bead over the rim. I have ensured the tyre bead is in the well and that the last bit of bead is over the valve to maximise space...I have now broken two tyre levers and am about to throw the wheels at a wall. Anyone have any experience or tips? Specifically interested in those whom have had similiar problems with Enve rims. God knows how he would sort a puncture out on the trail.

Fairy liquid on the rim and tyre might help.

That old chestnut.... he's gone on holiday and left you to fit the impossibly tight tyres. Save your bleeding thumbs and give him a welcome home gift

Huck Norris isn't a rim strip, it floats within the tyre - are you trying to seat it between bead and rim?!

Not that stupid! Huck Norris fitted as it should be. Tried fairly liquid already. Think I may chuck tyre in oven to warm slightly

Good luck with that! I broke the beads on two magic marys trying to get them onto some M70's. In the end I fitted Maxxis again, they are tight but not as bad as a schwalbe.

I am 3 tyre levers down now, the metal downhill levers are winking at me! To be honest if I had shelled out that much money on a set of wheels I would be proper miffed. You have virtually no chance in the workshop so you are goosed out in the wilderness

You should try a Rock Razor on a Stans Flow with procore!
I bought a nice long plastic lever from Decathlon, can't remember the make but it worked well. Has a hook bit at the end and a nice handle.

Took two of us in the end! Those tyres are only coming off by being cut, absolute joke! I have never had such a hard time fitting tyres in my life. God only knows what he is going to do with a puncture. It's put Me off ever owning Enve rims!

heat up the tyre with a hairdryer to expand it, it somehow worked for me and use warmish 50odd degree-ish bath kinda temp water with fairy liquid to keep it expanded and lubed

To be honest it took two of us and some hefty levers. I tried hair dryer etc, never going to happen I'm afraid. It's without doubt the hardest wheel/tyre combo I have ever used. It really is the next level, I just can't see what you would do if you punctured.

Swear a lot, moan, winge and then start the long walk home!

Ha, well I'm glad they are not mine! Certainly the nail in the coffin for me not buying a set of Enve's

My LBS tell me that Enve + Scwalbe is a 4 person job to change... I've known a couple of people who have walked out as its not worth the effort of attempting on the trail.

If I'd shelled out that much I'd put some decent tyres on instead 😉
Maxxis FTW

Given how hard it was to remove the maxxis he had fitted to them originally I would say it is the rim. I don't have any issue fitting the schwable tyres to my DT Swiss rims....

As for Maxxis, well horses for courses really 'init'. I personally am agnostic when it comes to tyres, what ever tyre I believe suits the conditions is what I will fit regardless of make. So for me the ard rock, I wanted super gravity protection over maxxis offerings based off feedback on here and friends. Not sure I would if I ran Enve rims mind!

Space heater is your friend there... they will go on easier warmer.
Trail repairs I find easier than workshop, once you get some heat into the tyres they seem easier. It takes me half an hour to get my dual ply maxxis tyres onto each rim before going to the alps - I've had 2 punctures in the past 2 years while out and both have changed easily.

They are the HV rims, they aren't as hard to get tyres on and off.

Fair enough... it's always easier on youtube though isn't it 🙂

If it makes you feel any better, I just did mine. Light Bicycle rims. Schwalbe front, Maxxis rear. The Maxxis was definitely easier but neither as bad as the OP's.
