I've made it my peronal mission to help my FIL. He is going mtb touring.
Up to now he has been using an old '90's hardtail with rack mounts. And carries a dry bag strapped to the top. He now has a new Mondraker 29er hardtail. I would like help with finding a solution to get a rear rack onto the 29er.
I know about frame bags, I know about solutions for mounting drybags onto handlebars. I know about carradice saddle bags. Can the 'fountain of all knowledge' TM STW assist with rear rack options.
I thought about a tubus with the quick release mounting kit. However looking at photos of the bike the seat stay junction is below the height of the top of the tyre. So I think the rack would need to attach to the seat post. The seatpost collar is maybe below the top of the tyre or maybe level: difficult to tell with the photos I have.
Is there a rack that attaches to the seatpost and the quick release? Not keen on seatpost only option. Whilst i will make him aware of the newr style bikepacking options I need to see about the rear rack option. Wonder if I could make something to attach conventional rack stays to the seatpost.

Thule Pack n Pedal seem popular, good if you want to fit/remove it quickly/easily.

May have been me - was a few months ago though. Ended up buying the [url=http://]Salsa Racklock[/url] as it was the only one that was the right size; the m:part one was larger IIRC.
They do come in other sizes, and there's a few besides the m:part one on eBay - you could use one of them, assuming you can get the right size, with rubberised p-clips to hold a rear rack on.
P clips will fix anything if you're stuck for a better way, but they look a bit diy, if that's important. And probably not suitable for the weight bearing mounts at the bottom of the rack .
I'd go with a qr mounted rack and a seat post collar like the salsa one.
Giant also do a seatpost collar rack fitting - including a q/r version.
