Just about to do this - do I need the carbon paste or is there a substitute? I'm hoping to just use some oil or lube as I'm a cheapskate
carbon paste does the exact opposite to oil/lube.
how about grease? my local lbs is useless and doesnt stock carbon paste (or inner tubes, chains, tools....) i have a good DIY shop close by and was hoping there was an alternative that'll do the job.
What Greeble says.
Grease or oil can affect the carbon fibre causing it to swell, so either dry or carbon paste.
CRC do a small sachet of carbon paste that has enough to do a whole bike twice over or so. Only costs £2 iirc.
I appreciate that doesnt help you do it today, but ya.
Toothpaste
Talcum Powder - seriously!
Carbon post, bars and frame...... and you're skimping on some paste?

This^^^ do you use cooking oil in your ££££'s forks?
And as said above, oil and grease can cause carbon to swell and delaminate, that would be expensive..
I'm looking at getting some carbon bars soon for the first time. Is carbon paste recommended for carbon/carbon or for carbon/alu or both?
I'll have a carbon frame with an aluminium seatpost and carbon bars with an alu stem. Happy to buy some paste if it's what's required?
Carbon/anything..
