I want to change the angle on my Haibike RX ALLMTN 2015. The current head angle is 68 * but if I fit a slackerizer headset I can reduce that to 66 *. Firstly has anyone used these before and are they good?
How to I measure the size or find the size.
It has a tapered steerer and has one of these Headsets on at the moment
FSA Orbit 1.5 ZS 57BP tapered semi-integrated 15 mm headset
I was trying to select which one I needed on the Superstar site but I was struggling as there is loads of options? 😊 any help appreciated
Slackerizer is a really good product- it's almost certainly a direct copy of the Works Components one, but it's just as well made and was excellent value when I got mine. TBH I'd rather buy from Works but I did get a SS one last time purely on price and I'm just as happy with it in use. (also had the Cane Creek take on it, which is a much less good design- they made it overcomplex so that it's a more universal fit, but that only benefits them since they need to make less variations, it makes a worse product for customers. So don't get that.)
Looks like your headset is a zero stack 56mm lower and 44mm upper cup, with the big 15mm tapered top? So, first of all you won't get a slackset with that 15mm tapered spacer but that's OK, it can be replaced with a standard spacer.
You'll have to switch from the 44mm zero stack upper cup to an external one- there's no space to offset the steerer in a ZS cup but moving to an external one gives them the space to do it. But that's also OK since you've got that 15mm tapered cup anyway so you'll end up with a 10mm or so taller headset, and just use a shorter spacer.
And you want the ZS 56 bottom.
So all you need to know now is the vertical height of the headtube- just measure it. And I'd assume the fork is tapered but check to be 100% sure Then find the EC44, ZS56, presumably tapered headset that's the correct length on their website.
I used a works headset to do the same.
It worked perfectly until the bike was nicked.
Perfect Northwind Thankyou! 🙂

Will the standard spacer come with the set i buy from superstar to replace the 15mm cap i have on at the moment?

Well I guess the spontaneous failure served the thief right

It'll come with a normal shaped cap so it'll be a complete headset, so to speak, but you're probably going to need to add 5mm or so of standard steerer spacer to get the stack height right. You might get away with it but I'd definitely buy a set with a couple of sizes if you don't have them already, they're useful things anyway
