Hi all just a quick question . when I go out for a ride it takes nearly half the ride if not more to get going , my legs are dead and feel very heavy , it seems it takes about 10 to 15 miles then suddenly my legs have life in them ! I ride about 2 to 3 times a week with rest in between and cycle about 20 ish miles each time , your thoughts would be great

I'm always the same..

However I dont tend to do as many miles as you and probably takes me 3-4 miles to get into it.

Is it not just the warming up process?

I also get the same, always slowish in the beginning, tend to take quite some time to warm up, feel tired. Then I'm always strong on the 2nd half of the ride, like I get a second wind!!

Try not sprinting away from the start of a ride and warm up more slowly.

Takes me half an hour to get going, sometimes longer, most of my rides start by climbing straight away, and it always feels never ending, til I warm up.

try riding for 40 - 60 miles each ride then therefore your legs will only take a quarter of a ride to get warmed up 😛

First half hour I always think that I'm not up to riding that day, but after a decent climb or two the body seems to catch up. And I thought it was just me....

Similar here - mates all charge off, I try to keep up and generally feel rubbish. After about 45-1hr start feeling good, just as they run out of steam and call it a day!

Been trying different stuff out this last year - I found drinking energy drink mix(SIS) or a quick gel before I start gets me up to speed quicker

Doing something easy the day before a big ride would help- can you ride to work or fit in a short easy spin?
