I use clips, spds, on all my bikes.

A mates, son, just arrived for a working holiday and has expressed an interest in joining our regular night ride. He has little/no offroad experience (but young and stupid so should cope)
We have a bike he can use - maybe a little big,
we have lights he can use - battery might be a little shonky
but nobody has any flat pedals.

So, i splashed out and bought a set of these

Will they break on the first ride?
Would you cut some spikes for more grip?
Is this the bargain of the century?

Those £2 plastic pedals do sometimes split around the outer bearing. Doesn't make them unrideable though so you should get home ok. Amazed no one has flats he can borrow. It's the sort of thing that's always handy in the spares box. I'd get some better ones personally but they will probably be fine

Where are you? I'm in Cheshire and have some MTB flats you could have if you can pick up?

I'd advise getting some dmr V6, about £17 and 1000x better than those.

They're the sort they put on bikes when they know they're just going to get binned.
I would call them 'pedal effect'...
😀
Sure he'll be fine though.

Got a gold set a few weeks back, ~225g for the pair, almost half the weight of the default Wellgos that came with the Wazoo (which have a horrid icy "hump" on the crank side which feels very odd if you place your foot on).

If your aim is to put him off riding off road, then those should be just perfect.

Lend him some wellies just to make sure.

excellent, for the price of a pint, they will do.
I will report back if they dont last a single ride.

he can buy himself what he likes when he gets paid.

edit: those wellgos look quite nice
