I have been spending more and more of my riding time on gravel and road bikes over the past few years, and came to the realisation recently that I had only ridden my MTB (a Levo SL) about half a dozen times in the last 18 months or so. It had a bit of warranty left on the motor (a replacement) and it is today sold to a nice chap in Edinburgh.

at aged 59 I haven’t been into techy riding for a while now, and my 2 gravel bikes should cover all bases for me, with the more MTB oriented one, a Giant Revolt X, having front suspension and a dropper, so good for tame singletrack.

have spent an hour or so photographing and listing spares that I no longer need, though keeping the clothing, helmets etc, just in case…

I don’t think I’ll miss it, we’ll see…

Sometimes the hardest decisions are the right ones. You can always get another. Better to let someone else use it than be left gathering dust.

Sounds like you’ve done the right thing for you. I’m going in the other direction.

Realised that I liked the fast pace of gravel but nothing else. Especially not drop bars. Looking to put my Tempest in the classifieds.

Getting a, slightly, bigger travel full-sus and will likely sell off what bits I can of my old Canyon Spectral.

I agree with Tracey - if it isn’t going to be used then clear it out and let someone else enjoy it

I've still got my MTB's E and regular but currently on the way to my semi secret MTB heaven of the Vaucluse without either. This time just road and gravel bikes. It will be interesting to see how much I miss having a mountain bike with me. I suspect less than I would have thought possible a year or two ago. Does that mean my mountain bike days are coming to an end?...maybe.

In the same boat, haven’t ridden my Specialized Chisel in 8 months then that was only around the local bridleways as my Domane had a puncture and couldn’t be bothered to fix it. I haven’t done what I consider a proper mtb ride in a couple of years as I can no longer be bothered with all the faff and traveling to ride somewhere decent. I need to get my arse in gear and sell it.

Sold my fat bike  recently, well a year ago. I'm still missing it but mainly because I saw a very similar one just a couple of days ago   I know it wouldnt get much use so not buying another bike. Besides I am currently sitting at S-1 in the number of bikes owned.

The only MTB I have now is a very old (2012) On one Scandal 29er, I only ride it 2-3 times a year and I keep thinking of moving it on, but it's pretty much worthless in today's market and the odd occasion that I do take it out I do enjoy it, but I very much doubt it'll be getting upgraded, ever.

I think in modern terms I’m no longer a mountain biker. But i ride off road several times per week. Mainly on my gravel bike. But the FS still gets ridden,  in my mind now it’s a gravel bike. But for where the bridleways and lanes are rougher.

I think i still fit the 1990s definition of mountain biker

I'm going the other way. I have sold my gravel bike, road bike and a hard tail because I realised I didn't actually enjoy those rides any more. It's like a return to my roots for me, and by focusing on the techy mtb stuff Iove I have revitalised my biking

I've been without mountain bikes for just over 2 years now since they were stolen. I have road and an old CX bike that get used. I would love a bike but can't justify it enough in my head, or ask for more space in the garage.

I keep looking but never clicked the buy button yet. I've never ridden anything but 26 either, might do rental day at a centre first to see if I can handle to the extra inches!

I’ve gone a stage further - I barely ride outdoors now on any bike. 4-5 hours per week but it’s all Zwift. Signed up for etape Caledonia, so I’ll be outside at least once this year! Just built up an Aethos frame for the occasion 😀 .

I too should really get round to selling my mountain bikes and perhaps try gravel.

Things and people change, the good thing is that you had the choice and are doing what you want to do, it’s not like you can’t buy another mtb if things change again.

having said that I was a late 80/early 90s mtber (map xc) and like amptill above I still am ( but slightly less good at dealing with utterly crap conditions,  I didn’t really do mañana till I retired)

Like you Iain, I'm mostly riding gravel and road at the moment. I rode my Occam once last year and have considered whether it's worth keeping if I'm not doing "that sort" of mountain biking. I still have/use the Fatbike and my Ti hardtail though so I'm not short of other options. I think the only thing really holding me back from selling it is that it's probably not worth very much, so it's reached a point where it might be worth keeping for an occasional ride.

I took seem to be going down this route. A few years ago, conscious that I was doing less miles, I started recording all rides. This has been very revealing. Last year I used my road bike most, emtb rarely and my hard tail hardly at all. My FS has been in bits for awhile. Even looking at the emtb , it has been getting more gravelly over the five years I have had it. The main reason for all this is if course age. As long as I still have a bike to get out, I shall be happy

I'm loving riding more and more and the eeeb maximises my fun too.

57 here. I just love all kinds of riding. (Less keen on road riding to be fair).

I'm trying to progress my tech off-road riding skill, which I think have gradually slightly improved in the last 3-4 years that I've finally had FS bikes. But there's certainly a part of me that is a bit scared of progressing much further, especially when it comes to jumping! 😳

But, I still love an XC or gravel bimble; being out in the outdoors and riding my (any) bike is what draws me.

It's called "getting old"...

I turned 60 at the weekend, a dozen of us out on the eeb's in the Tweed Valley, still enjoy the enduro but I also ride road, gravel & XC - probably helps that I can ride all straight out from the house.
