I am looking for some advice please
Me and my riding buddy are really keen to look at doing a weekend ride out/camp somewhere in the UK. Neither of us have ever done or planned anything like this before as we are both “a few hours down the local red route” kind of riders but would like to expand our mtb experience.
We would look to drive somewhere on a Friday, camp that night and then do a day’s riding then camp again with a BBQ, some (a lot probably!) beers then drive back on the Sunday.
Having never done anything thing like this before of course I googled and places such as Nan Bield Pass, Cut Gate Path and Howgill Fells keep popping up.
Are we looking at the right type of places for this maiden excursion or should we be looking elsewhere.
Basically looking for some advise on what, where and how we could make this happen?
Thanks all.
Do you mean drive and camp in the same location both nights, doing day rides? Or carry your tent and bikepack?
roughly where do you live now and how far are you pr pared to travel?
Thanks for the reply, yeah I mean camp at the same location and head out for days ride somewhere.
So you are looking for a camping base to do a couple of day rides from, not carrying camping kit, correct?
Your main problem will be navigation. Depending on where you end up going this could either be very easy or frustratingly hard. While everyone asks for a "turn by turn GPX" of a route maps are still a better option as they give you a feel for the area and you can start to see where bridleways and lanes link up. They don't have to be paper.
Somewhere like Coniston or Hawkshead would give you access to lots of bridleways in the central part of the south Lakes varying from classic XC riding to steep rocky descents all with good views and with decent pubs not too far away. Have a look on the PedalNorth website for route ideas.
