Most Thursdays I take the dogs for a ride that for me is 6km of climb so I go quite hard and the dogs get to chase things that hide in the trees.

Last night was first dark one of the winter. Dogs off chasing shadows. Owl started up, a deer started barking and I started to get the fear. Not sure the start points helps much.

You just have to make sure a dog is between you and the noise.
Oh and pedal harder

As I've been told many times, there's nothing in the woods at night that isn't there during the day. It's just now it's awake and hungry.

Don't you know rule one of night riding? 'They' can only get you if you're not moving!

It always freaks me out when I turn to the side and my head torch reflects off deers eyes in the woods that I thought were empty.

Do you stick a light on your dog? Thinking about bringing mine with me on nightrides.

They usually have ruffwear harnesses with ruffwear beacon lights on. Red left right green obviously.
Every beasty was out, I even didn't do the climb at the end that goes through the darkest part of the wood. Not helped by Dave being as dark as the night and appearing by my side silently but panting.

Can i just show appreciation for the proper nautical arrangement of lights.
Our dog is the only one with them set like that round here and i was feeling that i had strayed too far into geekdom
