Hi all

I've been riding a 2011 Cube Ltd Race http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Cube-LTD-Race-Mountain-Bike-2011-Hardtail-Race-MTB_39763.htm hardtail for a few years now and am thinking of moving to a full suspension bike, my budget however is extremely limited.

I am therefore very tempted by what appears to be something of a bargain here: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/sunn-shamann-s1-suspension-bike/rp-prod115623

A 2012 Sunn Shamann S1 for under £1000. I've done a bit of research and the components specifically the shocks seem to be decent and forgetting about the frame and minor components add up to not far of the asking price.

I'm aware Sunn have gone belly up but seem to have been a well respected manufacturer.

To my questions what do you guys reckon to the bike / specs / value for money? I mostly ride cross country and red forest trails with the occasional black (where I chicken out of the gnarliest features) do you reckon this bike would be a good match?

Lastly I'm a bit concerned about servicing and parts. A couple of people have asked CRC about bushings with no satisfactory answer. I'm not much of a DIYer but I'd have assumed most parts would be specific to the components i.e. Rockshox and sram rather than the frame / Sunn?

Your wisdom and advice gratefully received.

Paul

There's not much wrong with it but I thought the default answer to "I need a full suss but I'm not willing to spend a mint" is the Boardman team FS.

It's not flash but everything is there. That sunn with SIDS says to me more racey than skids and wheelies.

Have a look at Paul's cycles too, they have some mad cheap bikes on there.

Looks decent for the money, at worst you could move everything onto another frame.

But.... there is always a but.
Sizing - I'd be wanting to see a proper size chart with all the dimensions on it before deciding it would fit unless I could get my hands on one to try.
Intent - it looks racy with the SIDs and the Flat Bar, do you want a racy XC bike?
Warranty - Whats the deal, I'd be asking CRC what they will do with frame issues in the warranty period.

There are never good answers on CRC so don't worry about that. It's unlikely Sunn had any proprietary parts for bearings/bushings so you should be fine

Avoid!!! Sunn went out of business a while ago and and getting parts etc will be near impossible and a potentially a mega fact!

I ride an Orange5. I love it. After 3 years of riding I had a warranty claim and it was sorted with no problem and great customer service.

I have heard the same from people with a cracked specialized frame and others.

Good luck. 🙂

For under a grand id be looking at a second hand bike, although my mate had a Boardman Team FS and he was happy with it, other than the poor Halfords build
