Hi,
My kids are approaching 150cm and growing out of their 24" HT's. In the alps we rent the big-beastie Commencal Supremes which they love but of course they would be useless for 90% of their UK riding (BPW visits apart).
Have you got any suggestions for their first FS bikes? I'd like them to be able to enjoy riding them at BPW and the alps but also not be weighed down through the rest of the year. They are strong riders for their age but they are skinny things so weight is a thing.
I have been thinking that maybe a Bird Aeris XS would be a good call. I have plenty of 26er bits to use that would help with the initial sizing concerns and keep the cost down too.... oh yeah I have twins so double bubble all the way.
Do you have any words of wisdom on the subject?
Thanks
A
I picked up an older specialized epic 26er for my son, which served him well for a couple of years. Did all kinds of riding on it including the easier parts of BPW and it was nice and light. There are lots around used.
Nice idea Rich. Thanks will take a look.
Trek EX Jnr is pretty reasonable. I mean the bike, not the price (obv)
The kit on it is pretty naff, and the paint seems to flake off easily. And it's about 13.5kg.
But he loves riding it and gets up some good hills on it. Downhill it's very very good.
It's very small for a 26" bike, frame only1/2 inch bigger than the Creig I think.
I ran an old marin in xs. I wouldn't nest a lot as they just keep growing.
I'd be looking to track down a second hand or discounted Trek and surf the classifieds for upgrades.
