Got this combination of disc brake calipers on my road bike - flat mount rear / post mount front (stupid Cannondale).
The finned pads look like they’re getting low - can you reuse the fins (with some kind of refill pad) or do you just have to buy the whole lot each time?
Whole lot. the fins are part of the backing plate.
Dammit. They’re quite expensive to replace in that case. Tempted to get some Uberbike ones as you can replace the pad without replacing the finned bit as well.
L02a pads are around £16 on eBay per set, not too bad unless you’re ripping through a set every other week.
That’s not too bad - these have been in the calipers for about 2 years I think - and that’s a fair bit of mucky weather commuting. I think there’s still a bit left on them but definitely a little low. Need to bleed them as I’m putting on new sti’s so will have a look when I seal them for a bleed block.
I decided to try the sintered aftermarket pads from ti bikes on eBay. Not impressed at all. Shimano resin OE pads much better.
As above, stick to the genuine resin pads or they'll howl like Hell is 5 steps behind you.
I used Uber bikes for Shimano replacement pads.
They have a load of options and the pads work well.
I've just fit the spare set on the front, i'll be re-ordering from them again.
I hope it helps
I need to replace mine too, and was looking for cheaper ones, but thinking about it, mine have been in two years. Really not worth it.
Just ordered some j02a for the front caliper but can’t find the l03a for the back at a decent price. I might just buy the back semi metallic ones from Uber to try them out and see how they go....
Need to order some myself, L03A sets look a decent price at Sigma Sports, £18.50 a set.
Stick to the the Shimano resinn pads unless you want your brakes screeching like a stuck pig at the abattoir gates.
I have the same combination on my caad.
The best price on the front I could find were these with the extra10 discount code:
bike-discount.de had the best price for the rear but I needed a few more bits to take it up to free delivery.
Just ordered the l03a from Demon Tweeks - cheaper then Sigma Sports - but I think with postage it’s about the same price.
Think I’d rather have got them from Sigma then, more chance of them actually turning up. Sigma have become my go-to shop these days.
I’ve had a few things from Tweeks ok and have to admit I’d never heard of Sigma! If they’ve got a good reputation I’ll use them if they come up again.
So just to clarify, do rs785 calipers take the same pads as deore / SLX / xt ?
Sigma are awesome. Have the stuff on the shelf and it’s delivered really quickly. Free returns also.
Got 2017 xt needing replaced and have no idea what I'm looking for...any help, please? Finned required. Looked on uberbikes but can't tell what I need as I'm thick.
I just use the mtb ones on my commuter bike. Recently got some new G03S from Sigma for £7.70 each.
I don't have any alpine descents on the way to work.

If they're Shimano pads in there, take one of the pads out and have a look on it, should have the code on the back of it - likely J02A

Think so, I ordered some J02A pads from Sigma for my Ultegra PM calipers and the packaging had XT/SLX on it - from the spec "Will fit; BR-M9000, BR-M9020, BR-M8000, BR-M985, BR-M785, BR-M666, BR-S700, BR-R785, BR-RS785"

Yes. SLX, XT, XTR (I think Deore are different)
And finned pads make no difference whatsoever. (Unless you're dragging the brakes down alpine descents maybe, I'll give you that)
Thanks
I agree with dezb. My road bike pads last ages. I hardly use my brakes on the road bike as I'm always trying to avoid braking to get up the hill on the other side.
Mine came with finned pads and they look nice but not sure they add a lot to a road bike apart from cost and a bit of weight.
I'm using uber bike pads. No issues at all, no squeeling either.
