I'm going to get taken outside and shot aren't I?

In a clear up last night I found a single brand new Pearl Izumi padded mitt. I've no idea when I bought it- popped it on and boy it feels sooooo comfortable (and good on the bars).

So coming upto summer, should I go against the StormGnartrooper look and wear.....mitts on the bike?

Do it. I wear long fingered gloves year round on my road bike.

I like fingerless mitts right up until the point I fall off and slide my bare knuckles across the rock hard summer clay.

Had no idea this wasn't normal for the summer? Cripes, is it OK to descend with mitts on..?

Do people still not have 'a man' at the top of the climbs with an appropriately tyred bike for the coming descent and a suitable pair of full finger gloves?

Crikey.

one dedicated fingerless pair from when I bought my M2 (so, 15yo). Bit faded. See also gloves with worn finger pads, chopped down or merely left to decay..

I can never find long-fingered gloves that fit properly, so have worn fingerless for years.

I wear them as my palms get really sweaty in the summer and if I didn't then I would have to constantly put my hands into to the dirt to soak it up.

I have seen someone wear their cycling mitts at lunchtime, when out in town, 1980's Micheal Jackson stylee. They might be labouring under the misunderstanding that it's 'cool' to do this.

fingerless gloves here , i also like altura mesh backed full fingers for the not quite so warm days but too warm for storm trouper gloves.

I wear fingerless until it gets too cold or if I'm padding up. Even with unpadded, mesh backed fingerless I find my gloves and hands survive crashes largely unscathed, it's the palms that take most of the impact IME. Fingered tend to get ripped on the fingers anyway.

I've always worn them when it's warm enough. I am tempted to buy some full finger gloves every time I find myself riding a path lined with nettles though.

fingerless mitts are ace - got some new gore ones for this summer cant wait use them

only downside is you get a bit mucky if you need to do a trailside repair (ie, grease/chain lube etc)

Brambles/nettles?

don't you do what I do and literally put both feet on the top tube and hands/arms sucked-in whilst shouting arrrrrrrrrrrrr/mixed with laughter at the top of your voice?

Brambles - slow down for them and avoid the big ones

Nettles - don't really hurt much for goodness sake, so man up! They sting less if you go faster, right?!

I always wanted some, but could never justify the colour schemes. 😉

I find that the padding on mitts tends to be pretty thick and if you have long travel forks you loose some feel*

On the other hand, for long distance, or for when you plan on doing stuff with your fingers, mitts rule

I've hurt about every part of my body falling off APART from knuckles

* this could be imagination

Fingerless are fine until I brush against whins/gorse at high speed. I don't like that at all

So, the 5mm of padding removes the 'feel' from the 140mm+ of suspension travel and 3" of tyre?

* this could be imagination

ya think?
