Can anyone expand on what's there? Some places say a red others a blue? Is it worth an hour plus drive???

Thanks in advance.

I was there last year and it was a bit of an unfinished project. A nice trail but pretty muddy in places with bags of rock ready to make it armoured but looked like they had been sat there quite a while. Not very tech, more blue than red, if that, but the ground conditions made it challenging. We were in the area and it was pretty decent, not sure I would drive far, depends what else is an hour away there's a lot of flatness around there.

Definitely not worth a 1 hour drive, there is a track coming together but it is no blue or red more of an xc loop.

Maybe 30min drive.

....and that's mainly for being able to sit in the cafe courtyard, with a hot chocolate with squirty cream on it.

I went once (live 40 mins away), I wouldn't again, badly rutted, no flow and very short. Just my opinion but certainly not worth an hour plus journey.

It's a 20 minute drive for me so I ride there a fair bit (did a 30km pootle there this morning). Not sure I'd drive an hour just to ride the woods, but if you're passing with a bike then it's worth an hour or two of your time.

Fineshade has an easy family green trail that has 4 or 5 short 'blue' skill loops off it.

Wakerley side has the new Scartree Trail, a short (5km or so) blue loop - mostly swoopy, bermy stuff. Not much elevation.

Both sides have a fair bit of off-piste stuff, and like most places this tends to be better and more fun than the official trails.

If you've ridden Thetford or Sherwood then you have a fair idea of what Fineshade and Wakerley have to offer.

If you do venture over, try to make sure it's after a dry spell as the ground is clay heavy and we have a bit of a mud issue at times in some areas of the woods.

If you check out the Facebook group or website of the Wakerley Wheelers club you'll find photos and videos of the riding the woods offer.

The website is kind of in limbo until our AGM, although I am in the process of adding some newer videos and photos right now.

The club itself is VERY active, as is the Facebook group (which is the reason the website stagnated a bit).

Thanks for the replies guys. Actually made the 1 1/2 trip and rode there today after a shopping trip to rutland cycles. Thought it was a great little trail although I can see how it could become a bit of a mess in winter. Will defiantly ride there again if I have to go down that way!

Put an n infront of the k and that sums it up nicely. I went there from Lincoln and I wish I hadn't bothered.
