As above, really. After a lightweight MTB soft shell gilet, ideally with removable sleeves and rear pockets, and not stupidly priced - no more than £30 if possible.

I did have the 🦄 version in a Boardman one that cost a fiver in a Halfords sale a year or so ago, but the front zip is no good and has shat itself.

Any pointers and links appreciated.

a gilet is a vest, you're asking for a vest with removable sleeves......🤔

Alright. A jacket with removable sleeves to turn it into a gilet.

I have an Endura gilet and it's a lovely thing. Quite roady though, as are most gilets I think.

I have one of the earlier versions of this. I like it.

Mrs_oab has a Pearl Izumi like the one above. It's properly nicely made and fits well.

I have a super cheap Dare2B Unveil jacket. It's not as nicely cut, but has done the job well for a couple of years.

Funnily enough, just spotted a Pearl Izumi Elite Escape. Blows the cost side of things but apart from that looks spot on

If the zip has bust and everything else is great, is it not worth just getting zip replaced, probably easier than finding the ideal jacket.

That was an option has I invested more in it in the first place

Maybe not quite tough enough, but...

It is a jacket btw, though the main pic shows it in gilet mode. No idea how well it works.

I've got the Pearl Izumi Thermal Elite softshell (probably 2014?) convertible. It's very good as a jacket when it's cold but you're less likely to remove the arms then. A thinner version would be fab.

Take a look at Freewheel. As STW members we get 20% off (probably new stock and not sale stock). I've used the discount code quite a bit.

What size are you? I have an altura transformer going cheap if interested? It's a slim fit on me, I take a medium in normal clothes and a large in roadie clothing

Isn’t logical - that decision should surely be based on the cost to replace. If you were given a car would you buy a new one when a tyre needs replacing, or take the sensible option and get a new tyre?

Well. If that one tyre cost half as much as a replacement car it would be a consideration.

On a more constructive note, Freewheel does seem to have some interesting clearance stuff at the moment. I’ve actually got an Altura Transformer and the Gore windstopper equivalent, either of which I would recommend. Note though that like the Pearl Izumi one they’re short sleeved jerseys, not gilets.

I love a convertible jacket/gillet. I've got several.

Altura transformer is a great cycling top but mine converts into a t-shirt.

I have a dare2b and karrimor one that are baggy, they do they job but it's not cycling kit.

I have a couple of endura ones, They are far superior in every way. I picked a few up in the sales. My humvee turns into a gillet (highviz version) I use it all the time. Highly recommended.
